Strand 500 Series

Hi Guys,

I hate the strand 500 series manuals (the Hog III Manual's so much better :** laughs out loud **:) , so hard to find those great nuggets of programming shortcuts and tips. So how about a topic where everyone chucks in their favorite?

I'll start:

Copy From

Why You Need It:

Lets you copy channel and attribute info from previous cues into the current.

How you do it:

1. Channel Blah @ Cue Blah Enter.

2. Record your cue.

Notes:

When using movers or scrollers copying the channel's number copies all its attributes to the new cue, to copy single attribute i.e. scroller colour enter its number:

Channel Blah.Blah @ Cue Blah Enter.

Ok now which one of you guys is going to explain automod in no more than 500 words?

Matt

Yep I'll agree the manual isn't the easiest to follow!

Anyone with some kick ass moving light tips, please post them in here, they would be much appreciated!

Stu

PS. Sorry I can't contribute any tips... ;)

Ok, not sure how useful this is going to be, but hey here goes.

Moving lights tips....

Ok you can copy whole light settings from one cue including all the attributes or jsut one part. Basing * from now on as being the number

* [@] [cue] * [@ATT] whatever u decide [*] - a lot depends on how ur page is set

Another one is you can actually borrow the attributes from another moving light rather than spend 10 mins trying to copy a lovely setting or whatever

* [@] [AFROM] * [@ATT] [*] useful function! You can copy the settings from another light in the same cue, but can only do it from it own number in another que.

Cant think on many more at the moment! Will think. Only been usng the series for oh 4 years full time! Doh. Any actual questions message me. Can answer mostthings

Oh and in response to the automod thing, very simple function in the automod page decide which light has gone or whatever, then decide which u want to use n its place, idea is whenever thaeoriginal circuit comes up, the new light will come up as well. Used if ur doubling everything up, but also allows the new circuit to come up when it is meant to as well, which wouldnt have worked if you repatched it! When u want it just turn [AMOD] on, cant remember what page its under but thats a god general idea of it.

My only "tip" is: Use the macros. A lot. Decide what is useful (I like, for example, being able to selct groups of moving lights with the top right-hand line of macro keys) and take the time to program them. It'll save that time in the long run.

Out of interest, what do people use thier "user" key for? Mine pretty much lives as [@][0]

The HOG III Manual is such a pain if you are using a STRAND 550. Pehaps that is where you are going wrong !!!!!

One great addition to the 500 series is the GRAPHICS TABLET Shame it is not pushed by Strand. I reckon there would be a few converts if it was more readily available.

The speed at which you can edit and busk with it, makes it one of the better functions of the desk

Sorry guys but the Hog III joke is a bit cheap and only people who know me would have got it.

I agree about the graphics tablet though, also a good one is that you can now network your PC/Laptop running Genius Offline to your 500 - hey presto instant designer's desk. Seriously thinking about it for English Touring Opera, we could even go wireless!
