dfinn
Best thing would definately to try and get some bars installed as others have said because it makes it a lot safer and also more neat. Obviously we cant suggest which length bars would be best as we dont have any pics/ dimension. Another big factor if you were ot install is where your power supplies are and where your op area is in relation to where your LX bar is flown. the desk - dimmer isnt really a problem as 1 DMX cable will do that but where your dimmer is could be a problem as I presume you will have to either hire in a dimmer in which case you will need either a socapex outs or 15 amp plugs so therefore wherever the dimmer is to be located you will need soe sort of patch panel. Or you could fly smaller cheaper dimmers on the lx bars but you need to get power to them anyway so the 1st idea is probably best. failing being able to install bars why not get 4 decent stands and 2x 3m lengths of truss. You cold then use then to fly lights at the back of the hall. then perhaps ahve 4 more stands and 2 more lengths of truss. one either side of the stage in wing area to give side lighting etc. very hard to spec with no picks so any pics would help loads. gnomatron
Here's an idea to scare them - spec up the venue you have now, and figure out how much the gear you get for free now would cost from SE... oh, yeah - you say you work for them; do you mean voluntarily? If not, remember to factor in the cost of crew time per show to rig/de-rig everything, that'll be costly.
