BradWac Posted July 26, 2005 Posted July 26, 2005 Hello chums I help run a small acoustic club and we are now in a position to upgrade our PA system. At present we have the following: Warrior digimix DSP unpowered mixer (The Warrior mixer is believed to be a rebadged Behringer MX1804X)Stageline 500 stereo power amplifierCarlsboro Beta 110 speakers for front of houseCarlsboro monitorsPM12 powered monitor (100 watts) with eq & linked to:EM12 slave monitor Mikes/stands2 Shure SM58 dynamic mikes2 JTS condenser mikes1 JTS dynamic mike4 mike stands with soft casesProel TN series 12/1n multicore/snakeplus a couple of DI boxes We want to upgrade with something more easy to handle as we have to set-up and break-down each night. I reckon we need to keep the mixer and the foldbacks, but we were thinking of replacing the rest with a small HK system which I'm told is very sympathetic to acoustic instruments. I'd be interested in hearing from anyone that's using the HK system in a club situation or in fact from anyone that has an opinion on the above Thanks Brad
tour monkey Posted July 26, 2005 Posted July 26, 2005 Hi, welcome to Blue Room!! This sort of topic has been covered a couple of times before, a search for "small Pa System" brings up this thread, and there is another thread linked within that one! My apologies didn't read you post properly, the threads above have info on smallish PA systems, not just the HK stuff. Munky :P Edited for my laziness in reading!!
dfinn Posted July 26, 2005 Posted July 26, 2005 Hi, It seems to me like you have bits of this and bits of that. We could probably help better if we had a bit more information. What kind of budget are we on here? where is this kit stored? is it in the same building it is used in or is it toured to different venues? Does the kit you have still work? Does it still meet your requirements or do you need to go larger? How bigger venues do you do? is the pa big enough Loads of questions need to be asked so we could do with as much info as poss before we can start suggesting upgrades. Thanks, Daniel
BradWac Posted July 27, 2005 Author Posted July 27, 2005 Hi, It seems to me like you have bits of this and bits of that. We could probably help better if we had a bit more information. What kind of budget are we on here? We've got about £500 to spend, plus whatever we get in PX for our existing equipment where is this kit stored? is it in the same building it is used in or is it toured to different venues? It's stored in the venue, although there is a suggestion that we might hire it out to responsible friends of the club Does the kit you have still work? Does it still meet your requirements or do you need to go larger? . The kit we have does indeed work and has served us very well. We don't need to go to larger, quite the contrary, hence the question re the HK equipment How bigger venues do you do? is the pa big enough. Yes, see aboveLoads of questions need to be asked so we could do with as much info as poss before we can start suggesting upgrades. I hope I've answered them - Thanks - BradThanks, Daniel<{POST_SNAPBACK}>
dfinn Posted July 27, 2005 Posted July 27, 2005 Yep a hk would be good, or in fact any active setup which eliminates the need for amps. Thanks, Daniel
Rich newby Posted August 1, 2005 Posted August 1, 2005 It depends on the size of the hall and the number of people at your gigs. There are many different systems out there, but mostly copies of the hk systems. if you've got the money then go for one of those. the go from concerts of 100 (hk xt system) to concerts of 1000 with the projector. try this.http://www.djkit.co.uk/acatalog/active_powered.html But I think the cheapest hk system is around £1000. they are very portable, but the are also heavy.I think one of the best system for portability is the gemini xtr-400 as the satellite speakers mount upside down, to protect them, on the sub, with a strap securing them.there are loads of systems on that site, hope it helpful thanks Rich
brad! Posted August 2, 2005 Posted August 2, 2005 The smallest HK system is a good choice. Also have a look at mackie active stuff. I'd also think about dumping your current mixer and going for something like a Soundcraft FX16 or the like just to give some quality to your new system.
brad! Posted August 2, 2005 Posted August 2, 2005 Ooooh yeah, take a look at JBL EON's too, right up your street I should imagine, can even use them as monitors.

And also, the Phonic PA450s and PA550s are good too.. trust me, I know its phonic but we have 20 of the 450s and they're flippin brilliant.
Rich newby Posted August 2, 2005 Posted August 2, 2005 the mackie kit is fantastic, iv hired it many times. the srm450's paird with the srs1500 makes one of the best systems around. although they would porbs cost around the £2000 area. but the srm450 might be enought on its own. I think there £900. cheers rich The Mackie kit is fantastic, I've hired it many times.
