si_cole Posted July 25, 2005 Posted July 25, 2005 Hi, Just wondered if anyone knew where I could possibly get hold of wireless DMX systems (i.e. no cable between console and dimmers and/or fixtures). Specifically: - where to get hold of such systems- approximate cost- any problems/limitations- what about intereference- any other useful bits! Cheers for the help Si

Cheers for the help Si<{POST_SNAPBACK}> Avolites E-DMXAC LightingNo wireless system is as reliable as a cabled one ;-)Laptops with wireless network cards / chips can interfere. You need to carefully set up the e-dms to avoid this. It's a really sexy way of connecting FOH to stage or to the truss. PS, I'm not a lampy, but work with one... and he was in raptures when he bought the Avo system.Oh, it cost lots... look on the AC website for pricing.
Ken Coker Posted July 25, 2005 Posted July 25, 2005 The Avolites system is good, but it seems to have a bit of an issue when used in close proximity to laptops with Centrino chips - this may have more to do with the WAP rather than the eDMX tubes. There is a fix for it, although Avo may well have fixed the problem in the firm/software by now. That apart, it works well. Ken (Lampy to Simon Lewis!!) PS: Simon, if you're looking for the eDMX system it's in my kitchen - a small network experiment involving an old Celco desk and a toaster
Guest lightnix Posted July 25, 2005 Posted July 25, 2005 There's also Schnick Schnack Systems in Germany. The site is in German, but Erhard Lehmann (an old friend of mine) who runs the company speaks immaculate English. IIRC their system transmits a smaller number of channels using a lower frequency signal, in order to make it more resistant to interference.

We'll have 3 systems running concurrently controlling about 300 intelligent fixtures and also running pixeline from a Diamond 3 elite. Should be good, as that's just the main arena, another 6 arenas and a comedy tent to do too. I'll post some pics too when we get back. Hadyn.
KindredHyperion Posted July 25, 2005 Posted July 25, 2005 Here's one: http://www.martin.com/product/product.asp?...ds=wireless+DMX I should imagine it's quite pricey though (it's Martin, after all ) Adam
colourwatt Posted July 25, 2005 Posted July 25, 2005 For rental, use Essential Lighting/Lighting Hire-East Molesey, Surrey.A system was used 2-3 years back for lighting the London Eye,A VL 2416 in each pod all daisychained as normal (there is just enough power built into each pod for each luminaire). Control and programing from a vehicle on the other side of the Thames.

Freddie Posted July 26, 2005 Posted July 26, 2005 Maybe a switchpack. But then again, the latchy down bit doesn't latch down unless it has power... Hmmmmmmm..................

Oh, there's a shiny new black PC on your desk :-) Simon (Audio Monkey to Ken the Ligting Designer)
