Portable/lightweight vocal booths

I'm looking to buy a portable or lightweight vocal booth (doesn't have to be completely enclosed and soundproof), but can't find any that aren't a bajillion pounds. (Ok, less than 2 grand).

Has anyone bought one? Building one isn't an option. Any pointers would be appreciated.

Your being unsuccessfull because I think they don't excist!

Nearly all decent booths are bespoke built, the only 'flatpack' ones are really expensive!

Tell us what you need it for, we might be able to come up with a solution!

Buy some acoustic treatment panels (not the stick on foam type).

These can be self standing, and can be clipped together to form a small booth. One or two over the top will reduce sound reflection from above.

You should be able to find them from an acoustic products retailer...

Or for the ueber-cheapskate: Ply/MDF + Glue + Nails + Hammer + Eggboxes + More eggboxes + Even More Eggboxes etc.

Unfortunately, eggboxes do virtually nothing that's useful... except provide a smallish midband attenuation. They actually cause more problems than they solve!

For a cheap solution, use the ply/MDF as a backing, hang some thin bitumous felt (spaced about 2 - 3 cm from the surface of the board, then fix some 100mm glassfibre roll or battens on top of the felt layer. A small space between the two would help. Cover the lot with hessian to stop fibres escaping, and you have a cheap and cheerful broadband absorber.

Mr Si will turn purple :) because it's a little rough and ready, but it will be much better than eggboxes!
