MEYER SOUND

Hello,

Does anyone have experience with the CQ-1 top and the PSW-2 subwoofer.

The CQ-1 has only 80% horizontal coverage, is this a problem when you just use 1 top at each side of the stage? I want to use these for my band.

At this moment we are working with 4 x NEXO ps 10 and 2 subs NEXO LS 500 in combination with 2 x CROWN MACROTECH 2400. Now I am thinking about buying some new gear (Meyer sound or NEXO), because my NEXO set is already 14 years old (never had one single problem). Is MEYER SOUND also very reliable ???

I do not see that you will gain much, both good systems. You could add more subs and tops if you need bigger system.

Nexo and Meyer equally as reliable.

Hey Marco.

I posted something similar a few months ago regarding to Meyer sound and the Nexo's Ps'10's. First of all if you put the CQ system with the PSW 2 the Meyers are gonna win easy. But as you mentioned coverage will be a very different story. I would think also what would it be if I have to repair the horns in case that something would happen. With Meyer you will drive yourself crazy - pls try to find an old post from me about what to do when you need to replace a diaphragm. Meyer sound wont sell you the diaphragm alone they will sell you the whole horn wich is retailed for 700 US$ in the USA also when you call to the dealer that sold you the box he will give you the phone number of Meyer to handle it by yourself. They will tell you in Meyer Labs that probably you are lucky and they can rebuild the broken parts. But just imagine when you have few boxes maybe 2 or 4 from Meyer and you have a show on the weekend are you really willing to wait for them to have it ready who knows when? I don't wanna be mean but it might happen that you call to send the horn to be repaired and an answer machine would take your call in Meyer Labs.

With Nexo you can always buy the diaphragm and you can even change it by yourself.

Also before buying a cq I would definitely go for the Ps 15. Many people will tell me CQ it's a lot better and they might be right but take a look at the prices.

A very different story would be if you are the user of those boxes. Then I think Meyer would be a better choice.

Just what I thought.

Regards!

Now you see I'd probably say go Meyer...... But each to there own!

So far we've not had a single issue with our MSL4/650P/UPA system we bought. The other suppliers we know are in a simmilar position. With their powered systems, there is a level of protection that means trashing a driver by over driving it is going to be hard work.

At the end I'd suggest a good demo of the kit you'd like, and deciding which you prefere the sound of, and fits the requirements you have.

be wary of arraying any of the smaller (and cheaper) Nexo or meyer kit as they tend to perform poorly. PS speakers dont sound too great in any kind of array. for smaller venues less, more expensive, wider coverage speakers are always preferable to more arrayed cheaper ones. Try and stretch the budget and find a single box that can handle your coverage (so you only need a pair for LR)

Blueshift, how many speakers make an array?

I have doubled up my PS-15's and LS1200's for a particularly large room and found the sound to be great. I did not even need to add any extra amps.

I also suggested the Nexo's because the dispersion and throw of the sound is better IMHO. I found that you need at least two UPA-1P's a side to get the the equivalent dispersion found in the PS-15's/

What do you think?

Cheers Bad Rock, The thing is, I really wanted to love the Meyers, as they would negate the need for an amp rack, but on top of what we have already dicussed I also thought the sound from the Meyers was very clinical and lacked the urgency or that "live thing" that the Nexos have.

Yes I heard them in Frankfurth at the last Mussike Messe and I realized that was the best thing I ever heard. Now I'm working really hard to get my first boxes. They are less expensive than Meyer but you need to buy the Processor and the amps.

You might not heard of f-1 but I'm sure you know about Turbosound. They were the founders of Turbo then they sold it to AKG. Now they working by themselves again as F-1.

www.funktion-one.com I suggest you to check only if you got the $ to upgrade your Nexos otherwise would be bad for your mental health to visit this site :)

Marco, it is interesting that you asked about Meyer CQ-1's compared to Nexo PS10's and you got a lot of responses comparing Meyer UPA-1's to Nexo PS15's. The CQ-1 is a much larger speaker than any of the PS series from Nexo, or the UPA-1. I like the sound of the PS series, but I agree that they do not array as well as the Meyers. The PS series horn has different coverage angles depending on where you are vertically in the pattern. When you array them which angle do you use? You are either over covered up close causing comb filtering, or you are under covered in the far field. I have not had a problem with the 80 degree coverage of the CQ-1. It is one of the best sounding speakers I have heard. You owe it to yourself to actually audition the speaker before you decide. It is a standard of the NY theatre. It is a very reliable speaker as well. I am not up to date on availability of parts in the UK, if that is where you are located, but if Autograph is still the exclusive distributor they have always had good support.

Hello to all,

This weekend I will rent a set of 2 x CQ-1 and 2x PSW-1.

I will have the opportunity to test it in open air and in a medium venue.

I will also be able to install both the systems (NEXO/crown + Meyer Sound).

So comparing them will be easy (I hope).

And next week I will post my opinion/results here on this forum.

Thanks to all of you that have taken the time to answer my question.

Bye and till next week.
