Ross Posted July 18, 2005 Posted July 18, 2005 We have a "cube" bubble machine and are looking to restock our bubble fluid. We can buy the "official high quality bubble fluid" but are wondering if anyone has experience of mixing thier own. It looks and feels like watered down washing up liquid. I'm quite prepared to spend an afternoon trying out various consistencies but if folks had a ready made "x parts liquid to y parts water" that would save me some time. I had a look through the search facility but didn't turn anthing up (however, I did turn up references to UV bubble fluid that tweaked my imagination!) Many thanks,Ross
Gilly Posted July 19, 2005 Posted July 19, 2005 I would reccomend against making your own. When I've seen this done in the past its really "gunged" up the machine.
Jivemaster Posted July 19, 2005 Posted July 19, 2005 Washing up liquid is for washing up for bubbles its a f*** up. Use the proper stuf.
3guk Posted July 20, 2005 Posted July 20, 2005 Use the stuff that woolworths sell !! Seriously its top quality stuff !! Better than most of the bought stuff !! Very cheap too !!
gaspipe58 Posted July 20, 2005 Posted July 20, 2005 We do make our own bubble mix but I wouldn't use it for public entertainment. It can leave a very slippery residue - Ooooo bye bye dancers :)
Mush Posted July 21, 2005 Posted July 21, 2005 Lot of bubble recipes around but most comonly quoted additive is Joy dish soap, American washing up liquid, useful enough that seen UK juggling supply places import it specifically for bubble mixing. Heard reports that UV bubble fluid has a tendency to stain some surfaces.Things like fluroescein are very strong UV active dyes if you really want to try it. http://www.scuddlebutt3.co.uk/Dyes.htm
gaspipe58 Posted July 21, 2005 Posted July 21, 2005 Not made any for a while (which shows how well it keeps) but it's mixture of Teepol, glycerine, ethanol and water. Not much ethanol but quite a bit of the others. Chief chemist likes to blow bubbles with gas and set fire to them :)
the kid Posted July 21, 2005 Posted July 21, 2005 The UV stuff I've used was totaly rubbish, didn't glow under UV, and was really slimy.
