Bit of a problem... we had new lighting bars fitted about a year ago, on winches. The company who fitted them, a well known rigging / install company, tested them to 250kg WLL.

We had some pat testing / load testing done recently and the company doing this has rated the bars at 125kg SWL.

We haven't seen any paperwork yet and they never told us why they downrated the bars, in fact, I've only just noticed the new tags on them !

We have a lighting company coming in this weekend and had given them the tech spec as we had it, ie 250kg WLL so my question is,

Who do we go with, the company who installed the gear or the ones who have just tested it ? edit, the company who just tested them didn't have any weights.

Testing doesn't necessarily need to include weights. It can usually be done quite happily as an inspection and paperwork test of the construction design.

I'd be speaking to company 2 to find out why they think 125kg rather than the original 250kg. It may be that they've thought that's all you need to hang (based on what was hung on inspection day) and therefore signed off at that.

We emailed them to ask what was going on and they're coming in to see what the problem is, they can't explain it themselves ! There seems no reason why they would downrate the bars by this much as nothing has changed / broken since they were installed. I check them every week just incase a steel has frayed or something.
