Hello,

I was wondering if I could link up say 4 to 8 small cheap strobe lights like in the link below from their 13A plug and put 15A on them, grelco them and put them into a dimmer channel? Would I have any problems to look at? Even though I wouldn't have any control via fader of how much they can strobe, I'm just looking for a small effect on stage that would let me bring up a channel of these strobes.

They`ll flash out of sequence is one thing, no remote trigger, but mebbe effect your after.

Putting strobes into a dimmer is not a good idea, strobe pulls a big pulse of current which is hard and possibly fatal to triacs and chokes. Use a switch channel of some form.

As suggested this is not without risks to your dimmer, but it'll probably be OK, these are baby strobes, almost certainly with a conventional discharge cap charged up from mains via a resistor, not one of Big Clive's tube-straight-across-the-mains jobs.

The real problem is if you plug a bunch of these into a dimmer channel, they wont go off, they'll just flash and flash and flash, but at a reduced rate and brilliance. What you need is to make the dimmer output a true voltage output, and for that you need a resistive load across the dimmer. A 60W light bulb will usually do the job, though you'll find people using par64s if thats what they happen to have handy.
