I have some LED display lights that I want to play around with. The type that are usually controlled through an app or on the power supply.

I have been making some LED strip lights for the stage by wiring the lights through a decoder and I was hoping to try the same with these.

However, the wires are throwing me a little. I have identified the hot wire, but I'm not familiar with the markings on the other 3. I'm assuming they are the RGB lines and if so I can figure out which is which by trial and error, but I'm just looking for confirmation from your good selves before I accidently blow the theatre up.

Unless someone else has some kit with exactly this type of cable then I don't think one can say from this picture. This is just a generic ribbon cable and the cores could have been used for anything. Is this the output from the driver or is it the tail on the end of the LED strip? What does the rest look like? Can't tell much from a bit of wire and a connector.

This is the light at the other end of the cable and the splitter for the other lights.

If you've identified the common wire then, as you say, you can determine what the others are by trial and error. However, if you're experimenting with some bits which weren't necessarily designed to go together you need to be sure that the current and voltage supplied by the driver is correct for the lights. Getting that wrong is the thing that could potentially do some damage. Do you have any information about the LEDs and for the driver? Spec sheets? Model numbers?
