Greetings all

I have been working in the industry for about 30 years now, mostly audio and lighting at the start but moved to rigging and power almost 20 years ago and full time for the last 15.

I mainly used CM at first then got stuck with Stagemakers for about 8 years (painful), I did get certified in both.

Now I am using Liftkets for the last year and a bit and I do like them, quiet like the Stagemakers but much less finicky.

I have run into a few issues that are a bit puzzling.

They do tend to burn through fuses, We were changing fuses every few shows on at least one hoist, and when they go out on rentals to other companies there is almost always one burned fuse.

We did think it was a cabling issue as we were using the molded end soca7 (like motionlabs) and did notice that is was possible to make a connection without lining up the guide so we changed our soca 7 to ceep ends to match the factory installed tail on the hoist, however a rental just came back and one hoist had burned fuses and what seems to be a dead contactor so.....

I read through a few manuals for Liftket and Tourrig and the ones I have all focus on 50Hz European voltages so I'm not clear on the correct fuse rating for North America. the company was using 5A 250v fast blow fuses I have changed them to 3A 250v slow blow. Thought?

I have also had to replace a half dozen burned out contactors in the last year, was it the over amped fuses causing this?

I would appreciate any maintenance advice.

I have no knowledge of the kit but...

If something requires a 5A fuse on 240V, that tends to very loosly imply a load in 1KW region

To use the same kit but designed for 1KW at 120V = 8.5A so my first assumption is the fuse needs to be twice the size and control gear (contactor) also needs to be appropriately sized.

 

Is there any rating plate on the kit?

Making and breaking the 7 pin socas whilst power is present will burn fuses. Same goes with the EXE rise motors that are more popular in Europe, making and breaking multipin connectors whilst energised will pop fuses in them (1a in the 1t motor, guess how I know that off the top of my head........) A regular client of mine stock chainmaster (same as liftket) hoists in their LA warehouse, and the 1t version is rated at 4.36a at 230v 3 phase. Changing to 3a slow blow fuses would be a bad idea. You need to find the source of the issue, not just blindly replace fuses and expect things to get better.

Just being pedantic Jake, but certified is what I was when they sent me to the "psych unit". You mean certificated.

think James has the answer but for Canada you might want to PM Bryson.
