Dead clamp meter!

Recommended Posts

My AC/DC clamp meter  had a dead battery, but after a fresh set (2 x AAA) of batteries the screen still doesn't work but the built in torch does work. Is this usual, is this repairable or is it junk? Perel branded model ECM2, probably ex Maplin or Lidl.

That's about the same price as CPC's Multicomp Pro.

Uni T's e variant party trick is 2A DC range, gets near to single mA resolution, well close.

Not so bothered about DC,looks like CPC have something closer to 20 quid.

Strangely, not rotting batteries. I suspect some memory or chip lost it's program when the batteries went flat.

I had that happen to me with a Practica digital camera. I turned it on, took alarge number of pictures - Circa 50 and it went off, turned it back on, it flashed up with something on the screen and went black straightaway. New batteries did nothing, google confirmed I'd hit the correct sequence to convert a decent (at the time) happy snappy digi into a brick.

I contacted a local camera repair service who immediately confirmed the known problem and gave contact details for Practica service centre, they of couse denied any knowledge of the well publicly discussed problem and quoted ~80% of the cost of replacement camera as a starting point for service.
