As per the title, really - we'd like to shuffle a few fixtures around in our rig as getting rid of some old lights and putting new ones in has left some massive holes in our patch which will make slotting in more new stuff tricky.

Our desk doesn't support RDM but the fixtures do, as does our SACN node - so can anyone recommend some software that'll do it? Windows/Mac/Android/iOS - happy with any of those. Needs to be free or pint-of-beer sort of money, as this is likely to be a one-off thing and it won't be a hugely tough job to just go and readdress the lights manually if it comes to it.

MagicQ will access it but I'm not sure you can actually change things. Alternatively, find someone nearby with a DMXCat - it's ultra simple with that. Where are you? I'm in Surrey but am travelling up to Derbyshire today and back on Thursday so could help if you're en route and can pop the DMXcat in my bag

Thanks for the offer - I'm in Tyneside though (weird - could have sworn that was in my profile - I should fix that), so it's just a teeny bit out of your way.

Ah, yes rather. Same advice though - see if anyone on here has a DMXCat and can help out.

I know I'm a bit of an evangelist for City Theatrical gear due to connections but it really is a useful bit of kit.

as does our SACN node

The first question to answer is "What is that node?"

There's currently three well-known RDM-over-Ethernet protocols:

  • ETC's RDM over E1.17 ACN
  • Artistic Licence's Art-Net RDM
  • ANSI Standard E1.33 RDMnet

As far as I know, there aren't any configuration tools which support all three of them.

ETC's Concert software supports both the ETC ACN and standard RDMnet methods, and I believe the AL "DMX Workshop" software supports both Art-Net RDM and RDMnet (though not entirely sure if the RDMnet support is released yet).

Both of these are free-as-in-beer, though the DMX Workshop has a rather "developer's tool" feel so may be a bit confusing to use.
