CHAUVET HURRICANE 1300 MOTHERBOARD ISSUES

Recommended Posts

Hey wizards, I'm stumped with 3 Chauvet Hurricane 1300 motherboards that have some issues that I have not been able to resolve so I thought I'd toss it out there to see if anyone's willing to help. I have one of these machines in storage waiting for repairs so if I could get one of these boards repaired I could set that one machine straight and possibly repair the other two boards to use as spares. One board has one particular problem and the other two boards have a different issue. On board no. 1, I did some re-touching of solder points and tested transistors, diodes etc and I am getting 120VAC out to the heater....sometimes. When I do get voltage out to the heater, (signaled by the green LED (D8) lighting up, the board is not cycling off the heater and I am not getting pump output via J3. Other times I'm hearing a distinctive clicking on the small black relay that feeds the pump and D8 flickers and flashes and voltage output drops out.

The other two boards have no 120VAC output to the heater and this output voltage to the heater block is normally fed via the larger relay. However, when a previously pre-heated block is connected to these boards, I do get pump output. If I can get them working, I'll be able to give a fresh life to the old Hurricane 1300 and have a couple spare boards to hold on to as parts. Plus of course I will learn a little more about their inner workings.

Hope I can get some help 😐😐

Although my post seems to have been ignored 😅😅 I've resolved the issue with board No. 1 on these 3 motherboards. There was a broken solder trace on the motherboard that feeds the pump from the switch terminal and this was repaired and the board is now fully functional. So on to the other 2 motherboards.

As far as the other two motherboards are concerned, after testing both of them, the issue seems to be the 12VDC feed that triggers the relay to feed 120VAC to the heater. I bridged the 12VDC pins at the relay that feeds the 120VAC to the heater and the motherboard functions as it should, the heater receives 120VAC via the relay so I just have to find the issue with the 12VDC trigger feed and I should resolve this issue but some input from you wizards as per testing, checking and metering would be greatly appreciated 😁😁

Not so much ignored, as pretty none of us are more likely to find a bad joint or cracked trace than the person that actually has the board. And posters are not likely to reply to a thread with 'I don't know'.

You seem to have plenty of fault finding skills, so not sure how much one can add to these particular problems at this point. However, the informative images make assistance much morel likely so would encourage that to continue.

Thanks indyld!!! I needed the encouragement! As I mentioned, I did sort out the issues with one of the boards and I've been concentrating on figuring out how to wire a remote into it as the remote is nowhere to be found. I've figured that out to some extent and I do have some small plastic project boxes, panel mount LED indicators and momentary switches so I can fabricate a simple remote for functionality. I did find a couple Chauvet remotes but when these are connected it triggers the pump immediately so they're probably for the Hurricane Haze 2D hazers. My next step is to see if I can get these hazer remotes to function with this fog machine motherboard without frying anything. I'll double and triple test and probe and I'll post here if I can get them to function. Then I'll tackle the other two motherboards once again.

I also tried to wire in a wireless remote circuit board into the wireless harness input but I had no luck with that. These wireless modules came from two non-branded (yeah Chinese) fog machine motherboards that I ordered some time ago and 220VAC boards were sent in error. I'm sure these wireless modules can function somehow or somewhere else as they're probably 5VDC. The input on the Chauvet motherboard is 4 pin and these wireless modules are 3 pin (there was an empty 4 pin socket and I installed a terminal in it) so that's the problem right there. Unfortunately I don't have the original Chauvet wireless receiver module to check and compare.

I'll post some more results soon.....
