Prank or yet another worry.

I suppose the Led by Donkeys banner at Beccles Public Hall And Theatre will be covered by the media without the obvious questions (like https://www.blue-room.org.uk/topic/77109-mccoist-in-stitches-mail-what-about-the-workers/) but I'd be asking some about security there and some hard  questions of the staff too. Principally how anybody could get in and install a remote control banner. I hope no insider was involved.

I had no idea such a thing is available. I have just looked it up and lots come with remote control. Must have been someone in the audience, probably near the front. I see the guy they arrested has been released with no charge. Without taking any political side, it's interesting that the group are anti-Brexit and anti-government incompetence, yet Liz Truss describe them as extreme left wing!

As said, motorised blind is simple and cheap, remote controlled and potentially battery operated so no need for house LX.

a couple of G clamps and a bit of wood and you’re done.

That could explain the lack of charges on burglary. Leaving something behind that isn’t a dangerous device isn’t a crime. What theatre hasn’t got “something” like a bbc stageweight or left behind lantern.

Hmmmm... (tm)

(Cautious about the no-politics-on-the-BR...)

Not really sure whether the act can legitimately be blamed on the FAR right, though it was clear a left-bias.

But Ms Truss might be said to be lacking a sense of humour. Any decent politician should really have the presence of mind to pass this off as simply a prank - no matter how malicious it seems. Cancelling an event for this citing 'security' does seem a little OTT.

CAVEAT - I'm not a supporter of either blues or reds, in particular, so have no axe to grind either way on this.

Any lack of security isnt down to the venue, its squarely down to her and her security detail.

My point was what was the security issue?

I guess, MAYBE, that they might think "If they left the banner, could they have left something more dangerous...?"

Of course they would - which is why she would have been off stage and  on the road instanter. (Ex PMs have been considered targets for years. Some of us are old enough to remember the armed copper outside Grocer's house in Cathedral Close Salisbury 24/7.) So a 'prank' means yet more work and worry for venues who host, well, anything that might even slightly annoy anybody. And to put it bluntly it should never have been able to happen in the first place.
