Evening Chaps!

I've found a microphone while clearing out the civil engineering labs at uni. It's an AKG D19C.

Can anybody tell me anything about it? I hear one was used in the recording of the piano for Lady Madonna.

Cheers. Rich

Lovely old moving coil mic, mine was the love of my life when I got it in the 60's. Sadly died last year having been relegated to pre show announcements. Unusual impedance 60 ohms. Sigh!

low impedance used to be 25-50 Ohms, 200+ was medium impedance. I remember Grampian handheld mics that were all low impedance and omni directional. My first contact with PA and a 25W 100V line speaker system that from memory sounded really awful.

I wouldn't really be able to put it to good use in a live environment then?

How about selling it, is it worth anything?

Thanks for your help. Rich

Oh, and congratulations on your 1000th post Paul!

I did use my Grampian one in an emergency, but the effect of the mismatch is to make it VERY low gain. Shouting into it produced workable level, but ordianry speech at 150-200mm was just too low to be useful. If you sell it on ebay, you may be surprised. My collection of old STC mics I sold last year fetched really good prices - I was very surprised.

I only just noticed the post counter and description has changed. Always thought people who say I talk too much are right!
