davidatefi Posted July 13, 2005 Posted July 13, 2005 hey, I am looking to hold a screening of a film in my school hall, probably 'Rocky Horror' or 'Grease'. I am aware that I will need a license in order to do this and I have contacted the local council to ask about this, although have not recieved an answer yet. I am just wondering if anyone could give me a rough estimate of how much this might be....here's some info about it since I know it depends on lots of things: Audience: no more than 400Ticket price: tbc, about £3No profits will be made, all profits will be fed into our school hall and events, but not a registered charity.Showing will be from a dvd + projector. If anyone can give any help or a rough estimate, would be very greatful, thanks david :)
Bryson Posted July 13, 2005 Posted July 13, 2005 So, what you want is Cinema Licence. In addition to the cost of the licence you'll need to satisfy the council that your building is fit to be used as a cinema, in terms of maintained lighting, exits, etc etc. Then you'll also need a licence from the copyright holders of the film. It is unlikely that a DVD you bought in Virgin will be permitted. I've done something similar before and we ended up hiring the film print of the film, and showing the DVD. Not technically permitted, but I reckon you might just about get away with it. Not sure if, once you've hired the film print, it'll be financially feasible.
Brian Posted July 13, 2005 Posted July 13, 2005 The people you need to contact are Filmbank for the 'rights' side of things.
davidatefi Posted July 13, 2005 Author Posted July 13, 2005 cheers guys, Yeah, it is actually more or less a theatre / concert hall, we have a technical manager and we never hear the end of 'health and safety this....health and safety that....' But it is safe since it is designed as a concert hall. I will look into the Film Bank website, thanks. Any more info would be much appreciated. david
