Magnus
Well guys I need some help, its our summer youth project time again and we're doing The Wizard of Oz this year. I had this crazy idea in my head that we would be getting a munchkinland cloth with a rainbow on it or a rainbow cloth but oh no. I've just been told with 5 or so days to go that I must have a rainbow on stage in munchkinland. The projector is a possability but the director doesnt like that idea he want me to bend the lights to form a 12 to 15 foot rainbow on stage. Defying physics is not my strongest point so if a rainbow on stage is possible somehow, please give us a clue guys.Cheers allMagnus p.s I have a tiny budget! James C
Bending light? If physics serves me correctly, the gravitational pull of a mid-sized planet or large moon should suffice :D sorry - no use at all. Why is a projector such a bad idea? is it because the light on the rest of stage would wash it out in that scene? How small is your budget and how bright is the scene likely to be? Just wondering if a few Selecon Pacifics with acetate coloured "gobos" would do the trick?
James
You want a small portable lightweight singularity. The problem is getting it out of the flightcase. Seriously though - what iswrong with gobos? James
Big Dave
Why not try a colour rainbow gobo. DHA or Projected Image probably have one as a stock image so the cost won't be excessive.
Magnus
The problem with the 171 rainbow gobos is the positioning of my FOH cantatas which wont actually hit the back cloth that is munchkinland. as for the projector the spill from it when projecting I've been informed makes the stage cold and anyway the scene knowing the director will be BRIGHT! and so wont be visible. I prefer the gravitational pull idea we could use the one of the child actors heads.
James C
I prefer the gravitational pull idea we could use the one of the child actors heads. What a fantastic bit of lateral thinking! Made me laugh lots and I nearly sent a mouthful of coffee over the keyboard :D
peter
Any chance of building wide angle (S4 50 or similar) profiles into scenery? Failing that, what about parcans through a gause, focussed on the top 25% of the gause, and front painted clouds etc - you'd get the coloured beams emerging from the clouds, and hopefully the lack of curve wouldn't be too noticable. Edit:p.s I have a tiny budget!Just saw that...oh well... we can all dream. Click your heals and talk nicely to someone with a decent projector. James
OK - another Idea - how about painting an invisable UV rainbow on the backdrop and doing a reveal that way? (Don't know if your budget will strach to the paint - It might be cheeper to hire one/three short throw profiles for on stage use with gobos.) James
Doh! Just thought of another If you can get a mister - cracker or equivelent can you use four VNSP Par64's and mix the beams R (R+Y) Y (Y+B ) B P?? you should be able to angle them down and the dispersion should give an impression of arcing. Oh and the little darlings should be able to walk arround/behind it. James
James
Um Admin - is there any way to type B ) next to each other without getting a B)??
peter
Only by changing the code for B) smilies... I've edited your post to put a space in the offending bracket
smeggie
Black holes - multiple uses; 1. bending light--> rainbow 2. with properly balanced loads, skyhooks can be realistically made. 3. rubbish bin for the whole area; at the de rig, just place the hole at the edge of the stage and brush the used performers into it. 4. little sh*t removal - place diva/child in hole and watch it spiral down into infinity ;) :P B) B) B) B) I like. cheers :D andrew
smeggie
another trick for shows with kids - if wings/ backstage space is a little pushed, stack kids on top of each other against the walls. another bonus of this is that with a larger kid on the bottom, the whole chorus line/gaggle can go on at the same time; making time to set the stage. :D
James
Only by changing the code for B) smilies... I've edited your post to put a space in the offending bracket ;) Didn't want a space - aaah well. I suppose that's the only way to do it. (I see no comments on three posts in a row - me chasing the allusive 200 mark - no never :D
DanielArkley
How about using a prism? (OK, it's a naff suggestion) - You could place one in front of a narrowly focused profile with a hard edge, then if you get the right angle you get your rainbow (reciting Key Stage 3 Physics now!) I doubt you would get any arcs though, so like I said - naff suggestions :D
