So here's a quick one for you - no real advice needed here or anything, just filling in time on a bored afternoon at work! (don't tell the boss...)

Everyone likes to take a few personal favorite bits of kit on gigs - some big some small, so my question(s) is:

What is you favorite / most essential bit of personal kit you take on a job?

anyone got any cool gadgets that they have found to be a lifesaver?

cheers,

Si

Adaptor leads: Jack - XLR - phono - DIN - Scart - CEE Form and any other you can think of!

One of my most usefull is a pair of phono plugs to a single XLR (both ways) which can get a player to an amp a long way off using mic cable.

Thin cable ties ... there excelent for a instant cable tie up...and becasue there so small you can just rip off like lx tape...

[note] Deoderant [/note]

I've been on a couple of Gigs where other engineers have had some cool line testing gadgets or mini mic pre-amps, to check stuff quickly on stage.

cool idea but they all seem to be serious money! dont think I will go that far! but having said that, I'd really want one if I had a problem in a stressful situation.

For most jobs, I already pack:

Rennies,

Paracetamol,

Ibuprofen Capsules,

Spare Cigarettes (Believe it or not, I've resolved several "disputes" with directors or musicians by passing some of these their way!)

Spare Lighter,

Spare change of clothes,

Plentiful supplies of chocolate

Spare cash (always handy if a last-minute Taxi ride or purchase is necessary)

On the to-do list:

Behringer Cable-Tester

Professional Test CD

ACME Attitude Corrector (eg. Big stick)

L Plates (for when I'm training newbies)

T-Shirt emblazoned with the word "Taken" on front & back (don't ask - it was a heavy tour and I learned the hard way)

one bit of kit that lives in with my tools is a little pink noise generator. its all housed in an XLR connector. very useful, runs off the phantom power.

my next purchase will be an XLR cable tester, again built into an XLR connector - has an LED poking out of the strain boot which has several different colours depending on the fault. can't afford it yet though - had to buy a washing machine this month, HOW BORING!
