Simonimus Posted July 12, 2005 Posted July 12, 2005 hello, I'm looking at buying a small portable system for seminars / small conferences. I've been recommended the LUCAS xt system from HK audio. looks good and portable and all, but does it sound good?! if anyone has used this or any of the other models around it can you let me know what you thought of it? I dont want to throw good money at a crap purchase! cheers, Si,
paulears Posted July 12, 2005 Posted July 12, 2005 For conferences they are quite good, IF you get one with two subs. The snag is that it's quite typical at smaller conferences to have larger loudspeaker spacing to suit the odd spaces you have to work in, and the single sub at one side is quite noticeable. Much less so, when speaker separation is more limited. There have been a few threads about these. Fuse blowing was one comment that a few people had experienced.

strandgsx Posted July 12, 2005 Posted July 12, 2005 all I can say is that anything that is HK is fantastic!!!! Mark
Shaun Foster Posted July 13, 2005 Posted July 13, 2005 Another advantage of 2 subs is that if you do any band gigs with them you can use the 2 spare amp channels for monitors.

If you have 2 subs each sub can drive a 'satellite' and a monitor.
Simonimus Posted July 13, 2005 Author Posted July 13, 2005 yeah I'm with you now, I guess the only consideration there is where the sub takes its signal from, left or right input or a bit of both which would cause issues with the monitor signal going through the system as you suggest. worth a try though! Si,
Shaun Foster Posted July 13, 2005 Posted July 13, 2005 I hadn't thought of that. I know of a PA company that run their system in that way and it looked like a good idea. I guess if you had a graphic for monitors you could pull the sub frequencies out to keep them out.
hairyswaff Posted July 13, 2005 Posted July 13, 2005 Another advantage with HK, as well as being powered and sounding fab is that they are angled down slightly when you place them on sounds so the speakers are more direct to the audience's heads rather than going over the top like many cheaper makes. Dunno if that makes any sense to any one else but trust me, its worth the money to buy a HK system!
Mr.Si Posted July 13, 2005 Posted July 13, 2005 I follow you - The Satellite Boxes have an adjustable 35mm mounting hole which means that the sat's can point "slopey downward". And this means that the HF and Mid frequencies which are more directional can go more where they need to go. Also, there's less likelihood of the sound bouncing off the back wall of the hall giving late reflections and confusing the sound and/or being annoying.
