jamienip Posted July 12, 2005 Posted July 12, 2005 I don't think its the super duper all singing all dancing disney version that went out in 2001/02/03, I beleive its the cut-down uk productions version, please anyone correct me if I'm wrong Disney B&B Tour Dates thats what the disney website says, and im darn sure its not been to or coming to southampton. (edit) if the UK Productions Website was working at time of posting, then would maybe be able to confirm.
Nick S Posted July 12, 2005 Posted July 12, 2005 Having just walked past the Bristol Hippodrome (where it's currently running), it's not the original Disney production - the posters have something along the lines of "UK Productions present their version of...Disney's [blah blah blah]"
paulears Posted July 12, 2005 Posted July 12, 2005 It was at the Orchard in Dartford, and a report from there said it was fine. The Disney original would have been impractical to tour. The stage machinery complexity worked fine at the Dominion, but like most West End shows, has to be simplified for touring. Miss Saigon lost a helicopter, but like Beauty and the Beast, travels reasonably well. UK productions have a pretty good reputation.
Just Some Bloke Posted July 12, 2005 Posted July 12, 2005 I saw it at Dartford. The set is strange as about two thirds of the set is very traditional indeed, and the other half is projections. For me, I'd have prefered one thing or the other, but there you go. Lighting was good, but left room for doing more with what was available. The dancing cups and saucers (projections) were fun and the performances were pretty good. If you hadn't seen the Disney version you'd enjoy it a lot. If you had seen the Disney it could be considered a little disappointing, maybe. Still, as Paul says, the West End version would have been impossible to tour and the production does work quite well. Excellent transformation, certainly!
jamienip Posted July 12, 2005 Posted July 12, 2005 Saigon DID have the Helicopter, it got cut along with alot of other things when it went back out on tour after it finished here in Southampton in 2003. The Disney tour of B&B was amazing, alot of automation and lots of floor, but very nice on the eye.
sam.henderson Posted July 12, 2005 Author Posted July 12, 2005 Thanks all that have contacted/ PMed me, I now have the information I need. Many Thanks, Sam
Elwell2004 Posted June 1, 2006 Posted June 1, 2006 Hi all Went to see Beauty and the Beast tonight at Wolverhampton, great show and as previously said a big mix between traditional and projection. But the projection I thought was done very well and mixed with the real set very well. Just wondering if anyone had any specs.
lifeisacabaret Posted June 1, 2006 Posted June 1, 2006 Hmm....as far as I remember (from reading an article ages ago), the console is a Midas with a stretch, a Funktion One point source speaker system, genelec monitors in the pit pointing out to give the electronic instruments some acoustic presence...cant remember much more im afraid!
SimonW Posted June 1, 2006 Posted June 1, 2006 The Disney original would have been impractical to tour. [...] Miss Saigon lost a helicopter, but like Beauty and the Beast, travels reasonably well. The Disney version of Beauty and the Beast did tour - I saw it at the Edinburgh Playhouse a few years back, complete with live dancing crockery! The original touring version of Miss Saigon was John Napier's design, complete with helicopter. The current tour ispretty much a complete reworking, with a new set and lighting design, and a different director. Simon.
Gareth A Posted June 1, 2006 Posted June 1, 2006 Lighting is Mostly VL2000 and VL3000. Control is via strand 520i. Tours in 5 artics. Anything else u wanna know just ask.!
thelightbulb Posted June 3, 2006 Posted June 3, 2006 having seen the original in London this version is a very much simplified one but I do believe the original went on tour but not for too long and miss si had a different method of flying for the tour as it went in to the fly tower on wires and was smaller but both shows now have been reworked I thinkwould be interesting to see the lion king on tour if ever it did
