Vilya Posted July 9, 2005 Posted July 9, 2005 Hi, when projecting onto a curved screen, even with projectors especially designed for the purpose like a Barco 909, the (flat) focal plane of the projector and the curvature of the screen don't align, causing blurring. I could not find anything on the net, but is there a hardware solution to this problem? Does a video projector exist whose lens system can correct or at least curve the focal plane of the projector? AFAIK the only system capable of this is the Curvulon, a lens used in the 60ies for special curved screen theatres. Or am I mistaken? http://www.in70mm.com/newsletter/2004/68/l...er_curvulon.htm Thanks a lot :-) Vilya
MikeR Posted July 11, 2005 Posted July 11, 2005 Not sure if this will be much help as I cant remember the name of the product but I have seen a screen designed for curved projection that was ground / fabricated in such a way that it retained focus over a curve. Being a thick ground / fabricated lump rather than a film / material type screen it was rather expensive.
Vilya Posted July 12, 2005 Author Posted July 12, 2005 Thanks, but I'm looking more for an optical element for the projector. I found out that the Elumens VisionStation, which has a spherical display, uses a fisheye-like lens called f-theta. "The f-theta lens has a hemispherical optical assembly that allows it to project over a 180-degree range." Are lenses like that available for other projectors? They sell it with the complete setup and besides it's built for spherical screens, not simply curved screens.
