Guest lightnix Posted July 8, 2005 Posted July 8, 2005 Until recently, when I right-clicked on a picture on a website and hit "Save Picture As..." it would save in the picture's actual format. Now it only offers me the option of saving as a bitmap :D What's happened? Might it be something to do with having installed Service Pack 3 or have I done something silly somewhere else? Does anybody know how to get back to saving in the original picture format? Thanks in advance.
charlyfarly Posted July 8, 2005 Posted July 8, 2005 I presume you mean changing bmp back to jpg?I open the picture in Paintbox then resave the picture. There will be a drop down selection on the file box. Select jpg. and bobs your uncle!

When it reaches a certain point it only allows you to save images as Bitmaps. If you go to your internet options (Tools - Internet options) then click on delete files in the temporary internet files section this should solve your problem. hope it helps.
charlyfarly Posted July 8, 2005 Posted July 8, 2005 I've just learned something new! I never knew that, thanx :o :D
Ross Posted July 8, 2005 Posted July 8, 2005 Can I boast about the drag-and-drop related happiness of not owning a PC?Or will that just upset people.
Guest lightnix Posted July 8, 2005 Posted July 8, 2005 Can I boast about the drag-and-drop related happiness of not owning a PC?<{POST_SNAPBACK}>No, you may not :o Tried clearing the temporary files, to no avail (it's something I do very regularly anyway). Someone else told me that it's an IE bug - maybe time for a new browser :D

Modge Posted July 8, 2005 Posted July 8, 2005 I find firefox in pretty much always better tbh. Yes you do have to install some codecs when you first get it but then your sorted for ever more. Also using the adblock plugin you can actaully speed up page downloads by not downloading any or many of the ads, which can be huge. It's also rather more virus \ malware proof than certain browsers I could name.
P. Funk Posted July 8, 2005 Posted July 8, 2005 Firefox loses your bookmarks, history etc, if you power off your computer in the middle of a web-browsing session :D Someone told me the IE BMP files thing was just it being stupid - the files were still actually JPEGs, just trying to save with a BMP extension for some reason.
J Pearce Posted July 8, 2005 Posted July 8, 2005 Have you tried downloading the latest version of IE and doing a clean install of IE?
gareth Posted July 8, 2005 Posted July 8, 2005 Firefox loses your bookmarks, history etc, if you power off your computer in the middle of a web-browsing sessionNah, it doesn't. Many's the time I've powered my PC off with Firefox windows still open, and my bookmarks and history have remained intact.
mac.calder Posted July 8, 2005 Posted July 8, 2005 Firefox loses your bookmarks, history etc, if you power off your computer in the middle of a web-browsing session Never has for me... Usually the profile is just locked, and you have to manually delete the .lock file in your profile

Sometimes I find that this triggers this 'issue'.Also, when using Firefox, it does all downloads via the download window.Soo easy to get to that pic/zipfile/whatever you downloaded a week ago but don't remember where you put it.
