Lamps PAR 56

Hi, I'm sorry if this has been done before but I didn't manage to find anything using the search.

At church we have 4 par56s fitted with raylight reflectors. The lamp in one lantern has died and I can't work out which lamp I need to buy as church don't own a ladder tall enough to get to the lanterns, we borrow one when we need it but the owner is currently on holiday.

I think it should be a GY9.5 after much googling, but some confirmation would be very helpful.

Thanks

Just had a thought.

Will the ceramic thats currently attached to the raylight reflector fit the proper PAR56 lamps or do I need to rewire the lanterns?

Some raylights have GX16 bases for normally ceramics, some use bullet crimps (or whatever) to connect to the mains supply.

If the raylight goes into this http://www.stage-electrics.co.uk/s20/930330.jpg connector, then you can put normally Par 56 lamps in with no problem. If not, you'll need a ceramic and 1m tails set.

We have one of those ceramic things.

Thanks for clearing that up Stu. I didn't want to have the lamps, take the lantern apart and then find it didn't fit!

Spent this morning changing all our lamps (well all 4) to PAR56 300W MFLs.

The result, a much smoother stage wash.

As per above all the sockets were right, just a matter of removing the raylight reflector and plugging in the PAR lamp.

Many thanks Stu.

ok sorry ive lost you??

If you put a T26 or whatever in a PAR/Raylight, and point it down, the base of the lamp is at the top. Heat rises, the pinch fails and you relamp.

yes, but for install purposes where the cans are in a set position pointing horizontally or slightly upwards you get great life out of them...

Slightly upwards? Aside from floorcans and arcitectural stuff, I can't imagine a use for a par that would be slightly upwards.

Anyway, Andrew's point is that the T class lamps are designed to be operated "base-down" - not axially mounted as it a parcan or a new tech profile, so you won't get the stated lamp life if you do misuse them in this way.
