Andrew C Posted July 10, 2005 Posted July 10, 2005 why can't it just use some kind of normal connector (wouldn't a 4-pin XLR do what they want?). <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Too big! Think about the size of the "desk"... Perhaps the 4 pin Mini-DIN that Behringer use on the Shark DSP would be a better.
J Pearce Posted July 10, 2005 Posted July 10, 2005 Looking at the desk next to me a 4pin XLR would be a bit big but might fit, a DIN socket is OK, but isn't a locking socket. Perhaps a mini XLR would be better, I know its not locking but it holds very tight.
Andrew C Posted July 10, 2005 Posted July 10, 2005 The smallest locking connector that springs to mind is the Lemo; the problem is that it would add about 50% to the price of the desk.
J Pearce Posted July 10, 2005 Posted July 10, 2005 They also use the same cheap connectors on the bigger folio desks like the SX. A lemo would be nice, but a touch expensive for the rest of the desk.
Nick S Posted July 11, 2005 Posted July 11, 2005 I sometimes work in an environment which uses multiple Folio Notepads - every single one had some sort of PSU problem. Some of these were related to the connector, a few others were just completely mysterious and resolved themselves after opening it up and poking around. Aside from that, it's a very good desk - although am I right in thinking the Notepad is being gradually replaced by the Compact 4 (which I've never used, so don't know much about it)? ...anyway, we eventually got so fed up with the PSU problems but didn't want to really change desks (because other than that they're very nice pieces of equipment), so replaced them with PowerPads when we got the chance. We don't often use the amps, but it's nice to have the backup if we really need it for very small events.
Ilthigore Posted July 11, 2005 Posted July 11, 2005 I sometimes work in an environment which uses multiple Folio Notepads - every single one had some sort of PSU problem. One of which is possibly the same as the one to which I am referring, unless you're talking about somewhere else, or there is another 'Nick S' from Bristol who is working for Pleasance at the Fringe, and is between school and uni, that I don't know about. :)
gnomatron Posted July 12, 2005 Author Posted July 12, 2005 The pleasance use folio notepads? hmm. Soundcraft all the way then, they're using our spirit 24/8 in the dome.
Ilthigore Posted July 12, 2005 Posted July 12, 2005 I don't know what Pleasance use - I wasn't referring to that, sorry my post was confusing.
