sam.henderson Posted July 13, 2005 Author Posted July 13, 2005 to stand up against say a 250 I don't think so at the moment, the eye colour one was brightish over a very short throw but after any decent sized throw its really very dim. It can't be long though until they develop brighter LED fixtures. But LED fixtures are different all together and nothing to do with Mac 700s, have a search for LED, there are quite a lot of interesting threads about it. Sam

I only brought it up because I was talking about new kinds of features of fixtures. What'd you think of my editable beam shaping idea? I could see it being useful. like the opposite of an iris, lets light out around the centre.. although u could just aswell just use a 2k (cus I know it has this kind of gobo) and stick it out of focus.. (sorry thats just basically contradicting myself, but hey) Tom
Tom S Posted July 14, 2005 Posted July 14, 2005 the other thing, ive heard people talkin about is LED based fixtures, does anyone recon they could ever be bright enough (in clusters obviously) to stand up against say a 250 say.. or maybe a led wash light. I used some Palco LED wash lights on a production in March... I was pretty impressed with them. We had some rigged from the roof, and some on the floor, aiming at the flats... also, the set had a big white cloth stretched across the back, covering an arch... or at least the hole in the arch! We had two focused on that, and it was pretty impressive. It was really cool just to sit around and play with the channels, seeing the entire set change colour, since the Palco's were really that good!
tokm Posted July 25, 2005 Posted July 25, 2005 wash lanterns do come with a beam shaper<{POST_SNAPBACK}> I know they do, wat I was saying in my post was, could martin come up with some kind of beam shaper that allows u to 'focus' the beam around an object or just on a certain part, like something that u couldnt do with a barndoor'd 2k... Something along the same lines as the VL1000.. but im just repeating myself now. does anyone know when mac700 units will start being shipped? Tom
Mark Powell Posted July 27, 2005 Posted July 27, 2005 As I gaze into my reasonably well informed crystal ball I see... a MAC700 wash fixture to replace the good old workhorse 600 and I wouldn't be at all surprised to see a MAC300 sized LED wash type fixture at PLASA either, and probably not just from Martin either. </crystal ball> Cheers, Mark
tour monkey Posted January 24, 2006 Posted January 24, 2006 Hi Guys, I would guess now that the Mac 700's are being shipped out and more hire companies are starting stock them. The touring show I'm working on at the moment is looking at buying some to replace our Mac 500's. Theses units will be doing 200+ gigs a year of one night touring. Has anybody put the 700's through their paces on tour yet? If so, have they stood up to it, any good/bad points we may like to know about it? Secondly, is there any other mover out there that has roughly the same sort of features which may be worth us looking at before we take the plunge on these? Any comments or suggestions welcome. Thanks in advance. Olly EDIT: Just to add to this, we are running them from a Pearl 2000 with the 2004 software.
lxdad Posted January 25, 2006 Posted January 25, 2006 I took 30 out for 3 weeks back in December and they were as good as gold. I can honestly say that they gave me no problems at all. They are also VERY BRIGHT. You will be shocked if you are used to Mac 500s. LXD
Modge Posted January 25, 2006 Posted January 25, 2006 Can't claim touring or long term experience but BUGS hired some over freshers, simply for there brightness, to project our logo on the outside of the biulding, and brightness they did indeed have. I've love to go on about how nice the CMY etc is, but I didn't get a chance to use them much regrettably.
tour monkey Posted January 25, 2006 Posted January 25, 2006 Excellent, thanks for your comments guys. Lxdad, may I ask what sort of touring you were doing with them? In your opinion, based on the build quality etc are they likely to stand up to full-time touring? Olly
dosxuk Posted January 25, 2006 Posted January 25, 2006 Not tried the 700s, but if the 250 Entours are anything to go by, they're going to be bloomin' bright. We've got 4 brand new Entours on hire at the moment, and they were thrashing our 3 year old 1200W GS3s (new bulbs last nov).
