chris999998 Posted June 27, 2005 Posted June 27, 2005 Hi! Our school has just purchased a powermac computer on which to video edit, it is single core 1.8ghz, 2GB RAM, LaCie triple interface 1TB disk. The system shipped with OSX10, Panther as opposed to Tiger which seems strange, I don't know whether this could be causing our problems... In FCP5 I've logged all of the clips I want to capture from a Mini DV tape in a Canon MVX25i, however when I use the batch capture function to capture more than a certain amount at a time it crashes, is this "supposed" to happen? By which I mean does that happen to everyone else, or is there a config/hardware problem? Also, the system wouldn't recognise an older MiniDV camera which we also use, a Canon MVX150i, does anyone know if this is also a problem with config/hardware? Thanks in advance, Chris
James Posted June 28, 2005 Posted June 28, 2005 This is not supposed to happen. However we cant' help without a little more information. What is the error you are getting? James
Bryson Posted June 28, 2005 Posted June 28, 2005 I seem to recall FCP5 require Tiger (10.4) or 10.3.9. Double-check that. Meanwhile, see if anyone at AppleNova can diagnose the problem. But make sure you give proper details and put it in the right place (Genius Bar) as if you think I'm a mean moderator, you ain't seen nothin'! :(
chris999998 Posted June 28, 2005 Author Posted June 28, 2005 What is the error you are getting?<{POST_SNAPBACK}>Errors wise, there is no error, the machine just freezes and stops capturing. I seem to recall FCP5 require Tiger (10.4) or 10.3.9. Double-check that.<{POST_SNAPBACK}>A couple of the other people at school have said that they recall it needing 10.4, but the Apple site says 10.3.9 which we've got preinstalled. I'll post something similar on AppleNova, cheers for your help. Chris
Pete McCrea Posted June 30, 2005 Posted June 30, 2005 Repair permissions is always an old favourite. Go to utilities- Disk First Aid- Selected the System Drive then Repair permissions. Check via 'Software Update' (Second option under the Apple Logo top left of the screen) to make sure everything is patched and up to date. Also make sure that you've set the capture location to the external hardrive, as it may be a HD space issue. (Unlikely if the system drive has any decent amount of space.). Have a look in the options and user settings to make sure that no one has tinkered with the max capture size settings etc. Did the machine come with Apple Installed extra RAM? Sometimes Macs get a bit twitch with third party RAM and this can lead to crashes etc. If you have ruled out other things try removing any extra RAM to see if that helps.
