Guest lightnix Posted June 23, 2005 Posted June 23, 2005 Actually I'm deeply sceptical, not least because this is the fourth post that Langton (who gives no meaningful information in his profile, I notice) has made about this site (three of which have been deleted as blatant advertising). Maybe he would like to tell us what his connection with this site is? Maybe he should learn to spell "professional" :) I mean, how can we be expected to trust a business which uses such cheap tactics to generate business? Apart from that... Hmmm... a 'phone number and a website... no business address, no contact names, any details of who is behind this, ummm... "enterprise" or their history in the business. Well that's enough to set a couple of alarm bells ringing for a start. £250 for a six hour course :o I'm in the wrong game :( "NEBOSH trained instructors" - to what level? Oops, it doesn't say ;) No mention of what "qualification" is given at the end, either. A very shoddy sounding effort IMHO and certainly not one I'll be investing any money in myself. Anybody looking for entertainment industry H&S training would do far better to contact Chris Hannam at Stagesafe or Tim Roberts at the Event Safety Shop. If anybody knows of any other proven, reliable sources of training, feel free to post them here :(
Brian Posted June 23, 2005 Posted June 23, 2005 hmmm, a domain first registered on 16th June 2005. Not long ago is it? also...Registrant's Address:THE REGISTRANT IS AN INDIVIDUAL WHO HAS ELECTED TOHAVE THEIR ADDRESS OMITTED FROM THE WHOIS DATABASE so it's not a business then?
Guest lightnix Posted June 23, 2005 Posted June 23, 2005 It appears to be a Lycos-hosted template job, so it's not really a "real" website either ;)
Simon Lewis Posted June 23, 2005 Posted June 23, 2005 If anybody knows of any other proven, reliable sources of training, feel free to post them here ;)<{POST_SNAPBACK}> I'm not knocking the various training organisations.... most do an excellent job (although I share your unease on this particular bunch). However, "Management of Health & Safety at Work" has been around for nigh on 13 years, and there are a wide range of resources (e.g. HSE codes of practice and the HSEs own free leaflets) that give some excellent advice.Marko van Beek's books (although perhaps a little specific to his area of the touring business) are a good read, and have some good downloadable templates. zonino Posted June 23, 2005 Posted June 23, 2005 I'm planning on making a site over the summer that contains links to as many relevant training programs as possible, n useful info about them, if anyone has any requests for the site let me know :-) stan
Guest lightnix Posted June 24, 2005 Posted June 24, 2005 It looks like they've been spamming the ABTT forums as well, under the name of "Fordon".
paulears Posted June 24, 2005 Posted June 24, 2005 It looks like they've been spamming the ABTT forums as well, under the name of "Fordon".<{POST_SNAPBACK}> not any longer - looks like they have zapped it too!
fawkes1606 Posted June 24, 2005 Posted June 24, 2005 As an H & S Professional, I would have to agree with the majority here... NEBOSH is nothing! Unless it is a Diploma..... £250 for 20 students is too good.... I dont think you can be critical of the web site, I can talk H&S but cant operate a mouse! If they are new who knows, but more info would be useful. They need to be able to prove they can teach and pass on the right info to anyone using them. I know of a number of good professional trainers in the ents business who would charge a lot more, but you end up learning something which is the reason for spending your hard earnt cash.
PDD Posted June 24, 2005 Posted June 24, 2005 Although I agree that the website needs a lot more work and spamming these forums is not a good way to raise business, I do think people are being a little harsh about this company/individual. There is a telephone number for the company so calling them would be a good place to start, and everyone has to start off the ground somewhere. Rip-off or otherwise, who knows... we await Langton's response.
