Canada - SM

I have done a search and failed to see a decent reply to a similar message. But,hopefully, I'll get one!!!

 

Does anyone know of ANY stage management courses available in canada - anywhere??????? I know its a huge country, but just curious!

I think theres a school in Ontario somewhere that specializes in theatre acting and writing, and production. I will do some sleuthing and try to find out ;)

Hey I am canadian so you can email me for recomendations of schools and such but a few great ones are ryerson and york universty in toronto.

 

I think that SMing is not a job you need a uni degree for it would most likely hinder your way to becoming one. spending 4 years to learn something that will never help you to get a job in a theatre is a total waste of your time and money. one day on set is worth more then 19 years at a universty.

Ryerson is the one I was thinking of too.

 

Stage Managers are really just advanced technicians. I believe the majority of SMs start as technicians and work up. I believe ryerson does have some SMing courses, But, I dont think they have bachelors of stage management like they have bachelor's of sound engineering or bachelor of lights operations.

The Banff Performing arts centre is your best bet, but I know that much of the local colleges also do some SM courses.
