Source 4 JR LED replacement

We use quite a lot of source 4 jr zooms for lighting basic corporate stages. Usually 8 or 12 at a time, with a 3m to 6m throw.

I need to look at LED alternatives. Something with similar brightness, 20-50 degree zoom or thereabouts, colour would be nice but not essential.

I'm not looking at Lustr or probably even ETC Coloursouce for budget reasons, but the cheaper end of the market.

What would people suggest as a suitable replacement?

The Chauvet LED profiles seemed pretty good when we demoed them. Didn’t end up needing them for that particular project

Colorsource jr? Similar size to a S4 jr, we have a load of them and we're pretty pleased with them so far.

Would love Coloursouce, seem to be a pretty much straight replacement, but as I said probably out of budget. Ideally looking for real world experience at the Chauvet, Eurolite etc end of the market.

fair enough. We found the chauvet profiles and fresnels were about the same cost range as the colorsources, hence my suggestion, The jrs are less expensive than the full size colorsource spots (and a lot lighter).

The CS Jrs are actually pretty much in the same cost ballpark as the Chauvets, tbh.  Also the Chauvets are not that small - they’re clearly designed to compete with the full-size CS.  You should certainly not discount them on those grounds.

You could also look at the Strand Acclaim LEDs, which are similarly compact and cheaper than the bigger product.

I imagine the colour reproduction will be unpleasant if you go much cheaper. I hate the “lavender” white you get from cheap LED arrays.  (Your ADJ and so on.)

I've used the chauvet ovation profiles and was impressed, you could get a convincing tungsten looking light out of them and good pale tints. As Bryson says they are full S4 size so bigger than your S4 jrs.

There are the Chauvet DJ EVE fixtures, which might be a better price / size fit:  https://www.chauvetdj.com/products/eve-e-100z/

The Ovations are nice but not significantly different in price or size to a full size Colorsource.

I have not tried the EVEs, though, so can't vouch for the light you get out of them.  White only.

 

Somewhat disconcerting that the product photographs have a bent yoke, though...

I have access to a couple of the EVE 50 profiles, and they are a) quite compact in size but b) not a bad output at all. Nice and crisp edges and a very even white spot. The bigger brother, the EVE 100, are, as you'd expect, quite a bit brighter in (U think) the same physical body.

I have 2 of EVE100 and I like them and yes they are bright for the what they are and I have used them along side a 650w tungsten profile and I could not see much of a differences between them. I would get them more of them when the tungsten bulbs go.
