try zigzaglighting as well (I've used their leeds branch which is quite good for stuff like desks, not sure what their ML prices are like cos I dont usually have budget to hire more in!)

I've always found Zigzag's ML prices good, but they are in Leeds so not much use to you in bristol I'm afraid. I can pass on their contact details if you want to PM me.

I use www.Stage-Electrics.co.uk, its not the cheapest, but its got loads of branches around the UK and they know what their talking about.

its not the cheapest

You can say that again!!! One company (don't know if I'm allowed to say who on open forum) quoted me £550 cheaper, thats a lot when your total budget is only 3k or so!

Wow sam, can you PM me there details, I'm doing a school production, and for 2 mini macs, a dimmer, a couple of adapters, a memory board, and a few other bits and bobs, they've quoted me just over £800, and with a school only willing to fork out £50-£70 its not great!

Thanks,

I wouldn't exactly say Stage Electrics know what they're talking about either...almost everything I use them for ends up with some sort of problem or confusion. The only main reason I use them so much is most of my work is in the Bristol area.

Everything tends to be overpriced as well - from gaffa tape and bits and bobs through to consoles etc...personally, I'd think you'd need to spend more than the £50-70 budgeted for that, but as much as they're quoting you.

Which rather begs the question, if they are only willing to spend 50 - 70 pounds why on earth have you got minimacs in there? They are probably a good quarter-to-half of that hire price... ;) :D

PS- I assume you have told them it's a school, and they have worked out some special rate for you, as (in my experience) most large companies tend to do??

Exactly - you cut your suit to fit the cloth, and if you've only got a hire budget of £70 tops, it's silly to squander a big chunk of it on a couple of toys. You'd do far better to beef up the number of generics and dimmers, and think harder about how you're going to light the show. But hey, we've gone over this before .... a lot ....

That is true, I was asked to get a quote on them, but I think now they know that hire isnt all that cheap, this is for a production of grease, so I'll probably bring in some of my scrollers and hire them out to them.
