sam.henderson Posted June 18, 2005 Posted June 18, 2005 Hi all, OK, I am doing a show (charity show) in a very large venue and I have sorted generic lighting out and got a really good price from a brilliant supplier but their ML prices aren't as good so I am looking for a cheap supplier of ML's. I have tried all the big places (Stage, WL, Neg etc.) and some local places but wondered if any one had any other recommendations of places to get quotes from. As for type don't mind if there Martin, High End or Robe but no Clay Paky or other 'disco'/ DJ makes. I am looking for 6 Spots (so Mac 500s or 550s, Studio Spot 575s or Robe equiv.) and 6 Wash units (Mac 600NTs, Studio Colours or Robe Equiv.). Area: Bristol/ South West. Many Thanks, Sam
Stu Posted June 18, 2005 Posted June 18, 2005 I wouldn't class Clay Paky MLs as disco kit persoanlly - especially the new Alpha range. If your looking for cheap suppliers you might have to be prepared to accept whatever they might have in stock - even if it's not Martin or HES stuff. Anyway try all your local companies, they might be prepared to give you a good deal. My local company does me quite a good deal from time to time. Stu
peter Posted June 18, 2005 Posted June 18, 2005 Try Utopium in Bristol, although they're very busy this time of year with outdoor gigs.
sam.henderson Posted June 18, 2005 Author Posted June 18, 2005 I wouldn't class Clay Paky MLs as disco kit persoanlly OK fair enough there new stuff isn't but I don't know many rental houses with Clay Paky any way. Sam
ChrisD Posted June 18, 2005 Posted June 18, 2005 I use Viking Stage Lighting. I normally spend over £1000 and they happily deliver to just-north-of london for free. Worth giving them a try - http://www.vikingstagelighting.co.uk/ (website sucks, give 'em a call or request a brochure)
zonino Posted June 18, 2005 Posted June 18, 2005 try zigzaglighting as well (I've used their leeds branch which is quite good for stuff like desks, not sure what their ML prices are like cos I dont usually have budget to hire more in!)
KindredHyperion Posted June 19, 2005 Posted June 19, 2005 I just tried Viking Stage Lighting, and they seem pretty good - based on the prices on their website the costs of my next event will now be a third of the prices I got from another supplier (not to mention any names ¬_¬) Adam
paulears Posted June 19, 2005 Posted June 19, 2005 Viking were one of the first to invest heavily in Robe, replacing Martin as their previous ML feature range. They are growing very quickly - I think they are now on their 3rd warehouse, having outgrown the others in a a short space of time. Always helful, and if you are in Norfolk or Suffolk even more so. paul
Guest mattladkinlx Posted June 19, 2005 Posted June 19, 2005 Yep. Viking are certainly a good company and are willing to go that extra mile to help you (if its charity work) Dont like their robe kit very much (recently have used the Coemar equivilant - they are far superior and certainly give Martin a run for their money!!!! They are also far cheaper (being third of the price at least!)
jamielovesmusic Posted June 21, 2005 Posted June 21, 2005 Futurist in Wakefield Mac 500 / 600 £75.00 per week - good quaility equipment. www.futurist.co.uk
Guest mattladkinlx Posted June 21, 2005 Posted June 21, 2005 Viking still better as there ProSpot + ProWash 575 is same price but has some better features (would go with Coemar ProSpot 575 lx and ProWash 575 lx as the optics are far superior if given the chance!)
JonChambers Posted June 21, 2005 Posted June 21, 2005 I live in Diss so Viking Stage Lighting is the closest and best! www.vikingstagelighting.co.uk
Andyb Posted June 21, 2005 Posted June 21, 2005 Robe 250XT's are available from Bath for £40 a day, £60 a week.Give some more companies a call. I don't think you have called us yet! Surely anywhere beyond your local area will incur transport costs that makes it less cost effective? If you ask companies for a quote for equipment they have and is available you may strike lucky. PM or email me off forum the dates and details for a detailed quote. also...you said that you already have a good deal on the generics - you may find you get a better deal if you use one supplier for everything, hence a larger bottom line (unless it is an unbeatable deal). Mixing and matching from many suppliers is often a recipe for problems. andrew www.enlightenedlighting.co.uk
eldar Posted June 23, 2005 Posted June 23, 2005 I use stagecraft in salisbury. They've usually got what I need, even if I give them very vague descriptions and they tell me what it is I need to do the job. Eldar
