Mr.Si Posted June 17, 2005 Posted June 17, 2005 Hi all Sorry to keep going on about Stage Monitors, but it's an important consideration for me. Was wondering what monitors you all use? Brand / Model / experience & thoughts of them / what you would like to use etc... Ta, Simon
david.elsbury Posted June 17, 2005 Posted June 17, 2005 Phonic PA-450's.12" driver by 1" horn. Powered. Easy as to use, extremely robust (they survived being dropped out of the back of the truck by me....) pretty punchy and generally very nice. I belive they're a clone of the Mackie's.They also array very well (for FOH purposes)- like, you can stack them 3 across by two up, and you get this wall of sound happening- very nice. I'd like to hear the PA-550's which are the 15 inch version- but they're about 7 kg heavier, which is all the difference when you're lugging them around on your own. David
charlyfarly Posted June 17, 2005 Posted June 17, 2005 I spec d&b audiotechnik MAX monitors (15"-2"). Can usually satisfy the fussiest musos! :P
djw1981 Posted June 17, 2005 Posted June 17, 2005 D&B Max 15 or Max 12, L'Accoustics MTD-115 and Turbosound Things which are our desperation measures! Prefer to use 15" for all monitors. If we are doing a choir we use Bose 802 or D&B E3 on stands at head eight with MAx15 pointing at the front row of choir.
Chappie Posted June 18, 2005 Posted June 18, 2005 We have just purchased a complete system of EM Acoustic M-12's and are just about to order some M-15's. Ruler-flat response, differential dispersion horn and incredibly loud. We are very happy with them.
Modge Posted June 18, 2005 Posted June 18, 2005 our noise-boys use MB3's I believe. I am however a lampy and as such all I really know about them is that they're very happy with them.
Nick Evans Posted June 18, 2005 Posted June 18, 2005 Speaking as a lampy and rigger I much prefer in-ears, much more civilised working environment :)
chris999998 Posted June 19, 2005 Posted June 19, 2005 I'm happy if we actually get some, normally we just use some old foh speakers (not sure what they are) turned sideways, ** laughs out loud **. Chris
Guest mattladkinlx Posted June 19, 2005 Posted June 19, 2005 Gemini GX-450's (450w 12" with 2" horn - powered) Versatile for hire use as can be used for simple PA - have small graphic on back (vol, high, mid, low) as well as foldback / monitors and have various inputs (cant remember off top of head!) Fairly inexpensive and good quality! Also have used Martin Audio Blackline range for non-powered monitors (F10, F12 adn even F15!)
ojc123 Posted June 19, 2005 Posted June 19, 2005 I'm happy if we actually get some, normally we just use some old foh speakers (not sure what they are) turned sideways, ** laughs out loud **. Chris<{POST_SNAPBACK}> Ditto. And they work fine.
bassman Posted June 19, 2005 Posted June 19, 2005 Tannoy V12 or V12HP with shiny blue MC2 E25 amps... Very nice boxes, used lots in installs but not much in live work - we like them though!
zonino Posted June 20, 2005 Posted June 20, 2005 HK D.A.R.T.s v. nice sound, n as they're powered you dont need a second amps rack! shame we only have 2!
Bad_Rock Posted June 20, 2005 Posted June 20, 2005 For live music Nexos PS 15. For Djing Funktion One Res 2. Reggards.
williamjones Posted June 20, 2005 Posted June 20, 2005 For smaller gigs we have a bunch of adam hall link dynamics self powered boxes, these can have little wedge feet (which break at an alarming rate) stuck into some holes on the bottom of them. For what they are the sound is exceptionally good, and you can get just about any source straight into them, if I remember correctly they have a Mic pre, Line on XLR + TRS, and a pair of phono connections (useful for small one mic / talking head type jobs). When doing larger things, or applications that require a bit more balls we use Turbosound Q-Light, specifically the TQ310 and TQ315 being driven by some C-Audio Pulse amps, (2/650 and 2/1110).We also use a BSS Soundweb in the amp rack that we use as a speaker controler running a couple of custom macro's for EQ and limiting etc. The Q-Light stuff is very even sounding, and the TQ310's are very viscious little things with quite good low end response for such a small cabinet. They are also useful as FOH speakers, and the 310's make very nice delays with good fly options and accessories available. They now also make a TQ308 DP which although I have yet to hear by all accounts sounds very good, and has a digital amp onboard.
