Draconis Posted June 17, 2005 Posted June 17, 2005 Hi all I've repaired a number of Mac 250's however 2 recent ones I have found that the lamp is extremely bright and seems to be running over hot. I do not have a service manual for this model, so have no idea if there is any way to reduce the lamp output to resolve this. Any help appreciated (manual would be handy) Cheers Drac
peter Posted June 17, 2005 Posted June 17, 2005 Check the voltage tap is set correctly - if it is set incorrectly, the lamp will burn hot (or cold) and the lamp life will be significantly reduced.
Draconis Posted June 17, 2005 Author Posted June 17, 2005 all the units are set the same yet 2 are too bright and too hot (not tripping thermal cut out though?) ???? Peter Kirkup? name rings a bell, do you have workshop in Sully?
zonino Posted June 17, 2005 Posted June 17, 2005 I assume the lamps are all the same type? n how old are they compared to the others?
peter Posted June 17, 2005 Posted June 17, 2005 Are the lamps discoloured black or white, in the internal bubble? That would be a good indication as to whether the lamp is burning correctly. Check that the lamps are the same type to the others in the rig - different brands have slight variations in their lamps. I don't have a workshop in Sully though, I'm a student from Cardiff.
Draconis Posted June 20, 2005 Author Posted June 20, 2005 Tried the same lamp (and new lamps) in other 250's and they are fineJust 2 effects run hot/too bright with any lamp ???? As for manual, only the user manual is available on the website(already have it)Need a service manual if anyone has a link for one? Cheers Drac
DRG Posted June 20, 2005 Posted June 20, 2005 Email Martin customer service. Be nice and they'll email you a service manual. Tell them the problem and they may offer you some solutions.
zonino Posted June 21, 2005 Posted June 21, 2005 I *think* martin's policy is now to only email out service material to people who they've trained, I believe there is a course in glasgow coming up in the next week or so but you may as well try! just 2 effects,or just the 2 mac 250's? I assume you've checked they're drawing for 50hz supply rather than 60? as theres 2 it kinda suggests something like that, rather than the PF caps died or something
Draconis Posted June 22, 2005 Author Posted June 22, 2005 Got it sussed thanks guys! Didn't realise that the 2 bright lamps were using MSD 250/2 lamps (numbers rubbed off) Wheras all the other units had MSD 250 lamps ** laughs out loud ** Oh well we live and learn >.< Cheers Drac
