saw a quote from a local company for some new par 64's today, with lamp, safety, gel frame, and wired to 15A plug. the quote was for 20 units, they wanted £95 + vat each.

I was wondering whats the most expensive parcan you've ever seen.

JTE Parcan? GE branded lamp? decent hookclamp and rated safety?

If it is, and they're assembled, had the plug fitted and had a PAT test with a certificate, all in all, thats not that expensive.

I can beat that.... I saw 64s with the same accessories for £99 in Cash converters >_>

They obviously aren't lighting experts.

nope I still win £95 +vat (@17.5%(£16.63)) = £111.63

cash converters prices are inc vat

A well known lighting suppliers website/pricelist - Pulsar par 56/64 lanterns in silver £99-00 add the VAT @ £17-33 = £116-33. Always go for Thomas if you can.

Ok then so how about the cheapest, sorry lowest priced then???????????

This probably doesn't count, but a local hotel went bust a few months ago - it had had a new karaoke installation done a few months earlier.

At the auction, I picked up 4x Thomas Par64, virtually as new, with gel frames and lamps, for a tenner (+vat + commission).

I also got a (boxed, still under guarantee) Mackie 16ch mixer, 2x SM58s, a Behringer feedback destroyer and a pile of XLRs for 200 pounds, and 2 power amps (Yamaha P4500 and Phonic MAR6 - both boxed) for 100 for the pair.

I beleive you can get (brand new) Skytec or Skytronic P64 cans (disco stuff, yoke knobs break off in your hand) for about £12 (prob plus vat), from a local company in southampton. In both silver and black. The P56's are about £11.

The best 'cheap' Par 64s in my opinion are the DTS Pro series - shouldn't cost anymore than about £18 a can, but at least reasonably well made and the added bonus of the double insulated Parsafe. The only down side is the yokes are a tad of the flimsy side, but I've seen worse.

I believe these units are also sold on an OEM basis by other companies, I think Showtec rebadge them for instance.

Ah yes, I have come across the DTS ones before, but because of the double insulation, had no earth, you won't catch me with me hand in the back of one of those, especially if you get a dodgy batch of lamps, live filaments, lamp housings, no earths, eek! no thanks.

As a slight aside, DTS offer both a 2core and 3core version of the Parsafe, meaning you can add an earth bond to the casing should you want too.

We have 4 super cheap parcans at church. They have a proper earthing strap, and only cost £15 each. Add on our little all in one 4 channel dimmer with faders (made by NJD) and we have a nice system.

Its amazing what can be bought on a low budget, when you consider what was around only 50/60 years ago.

Nothing like ripping off the church *sigh* Its annoying that people dont look around and price accordingly :)
