Chauvet Ovation Channel Count

Hello, all.

Urgent, possibly stupid, question.

 

I have Ovation F-415FC's here in the venue. I set them to 11 channels each.

 

In my Chamsys Quick-Q, I can't select 11 channels as a option. The option "12chRS" seems to match DMX channels but eats up 12 channels in the patch.

 

The whole point of going down to 11 channels was to fit them all into 1 universe, so I'd like to know if there's a possibility of actually using 11 channels for every spot on my patch, or at least a reason why I can't. Getting our Chauvet spots to play nice with our Quick-Q desk has been a frustrating journey.

It sounds like the profile is incorrect, or at least not correct for the latest firmware/firmware on your fixtures.

 

In Chauvet's defence many fixture manufacturer's have got into the habit of changing DMX implementations with fixture firmware versions such that they are not compatible (for example changing channel footprint/offsets or function ranges etc as opposed to adding controls into reserved offsets or, similarly, functions into reserved ranges which would not affect compatibility). Typically the fixture manufacturer's do not notify the control manufacturer's of these resulting in mismatches. Or, along the same lines, control manufacturer's create profiles based on draft/preliminary/pre-release documentation at the request of the fixture manufacturer only for the final release version to be different. And even when there is notification it is not clear how to support - multiple firmware versions can be confusing, often with no obvious way to identify.

 

If you haven't already done so the first thing I would suggest is to ensure you have installed the latest profiles. If there is still no 11 channel mode then I would contact Chamsys and request an update. If it is urgent it may be possible to edit or create your own - I'm sure someone else will assist with this if so.

Thanks much for your reply. Ironically, it's the heads update that screwed me this way, as the old version has the right profiles with matching channel counts. I still have the old version on my pc so now I'm building a show there with outdated profiles to see if that works.

Looks like an error in the chamsys head files, it's the same on magic q and they share the same head library.

 

Below is a link to a head file that should work for you. The manufacturer is "DVGMarty" to make it easier to find once you load it onto your desk.

Morning - the 11ch mode has been added back to the ChamSys library today. It'll be in the latest heads download this evening (updated just after 18:00).

If you need it before this, drop me an e-mail at support 'at' chamsys.co.uk and will get you the head file sent over directly.

 

Have you got your Chauvet Spots playing nicely with the desk now or still having some problems?

I had this problem with the Chauvet fixtures. It appears to be a firmware issue. The 11ch is for the gobo rotator for the IP version. It would appear Chauvet installed this firmware on the none IP version even though there is no connection for the hobo rotator.

You can use the 10 channel profile to control the units with 11 ch firmware.

I have installed 3 different batches of these units. First batch 10ch, second 11ch, third batch 10ch each batch was purchased about 3 months apart direct from Chauvet. Another issue I have had is the internal diffuser have burnt out within hours of first being installed.

I just scratched the newest spots from the design as I needed a quick solution. I'm glad I'll be able to add them to the roster now. Much appreciated.
