Robe Pointe lamp timer error

Hi all,

In a Robe Pointe the lamp strikes normally when I give the lamp on command but switches off after a few seconds. Then the active lamp timer error is displayed When I release the lamp on command the error disappears. The fan is clean and function normally.

Anybody can give me a hint about what could be the problem?

Thanks in advance.

I don't know the Pointe but a logical explanation would be that the fixture thinks the lamp hasn't struck. I don't know how it detects the lamp (by means of a light sensor? Or a current sensor?) so don't know where you go from there...

Does all this behaviour stop if you disable the lamp sensor message in the menu? As said above, this sounds like a case of the fixture being confused over the lamp state - could be current related. I recall that the lamp sensor menu item may just control the message, but it's been a while.

Edit: Actually, I can't remember if the Pointe has that menu option. It is on some other Robe fixtures.

Have you swapped out the lamp?

Active Lamp Timer is when you try to strike the fixture within x-time of lamping off.

It can also occur if after y-time of attempting to strike the lamp, it still hasn't struck.

Troubleshooting:

1. As indyld says, turn off the lamp strike sensor (as this disables the error)

2. Now try. Does it strike the lamp?

YES: Problem with the lamp strike sensor or firmware

NO: Move to Step 3

3. Replace the lamp. Does it strike with a fresh lamp?

YES: Old lamp is dead. Leave the new lamp in, reset lamp hours, carry on

NO: Move to step 4

4. Repeat as above for ballast / PSU / each part until you find the guilty bit.

5. When you find the guilty bit and fix the problem, turn the lamp strike sensor back on.

Thanks for you comments.

I extracted the lamp and remounted the same lamp (just in case that extracting the lamp triggers some kind of sensor). Before I did the final test. I also have been searching in the menu for an option to ignore the lamp strike sensor, but this option apearntly only exists in the older Robe fixtures. So probable I will have to change this sensor altough I don´t know where this sensor is located in the fixture. If it is an optical sensor it might even just be dirty?

Due to industry shutdown, I can't get near a Pointe to have a look in it but there may be a combination of current sensing (harder to do much about) and some kind of physical sensor (temperature, light, or whatever) . The latter is usually easy to find on any fixture as it will be mounted in close proximity to the lamp enclosure and have a wiring loom go to it. The Robe spares site doesn't appear to list anything that is a likely looking candidate to help identify it, plus one would expect a temp sensor problem to give a different error.

To save going around the houses, I would just ring Robe Tech Support and they'll know the most likely causes and the fastest way to eliminate the different elements.

I am facing a similar issue now. Did you ring in the Robe Support, what did they say ?
