4pin xlr male to male converter

Recommended Posts

I have my own comms headset with a 4 pin xlr female connector on. That's fine for most in-house comms systems, but occasionally I tour into a venue where the comms input is 4 pin female.

Canford sell a male-male converter with a short cable, but with their minimum order, it would cost me £35 to get one.

I can't solder to save my life, so am asking if someone here could please make me a connector, for parts + labour + postage + a bit of profit?

I suspect that even in the current climate, an individual would struggle to make one hugely cheaper than the canford price, unless they have the parts 'on the shelf'...at £7.40 for two connectors + £3.50 CPC handling charge + VAT, say a fiver for postage to you, and a tenner for labour, you're already at £28...! Might be cheaper just to buy the bits, and a box of chocolates for the next proddy LX you bump into...!

Edited to add: Beaten to it, by James Remo, who obviously does have the parts 'on the shelf'!

Well there is one sat here with your name on it - and I wasn't even going to charge you postage! Oh well, into the box of random adaptors it shall go. Was second hand parts from my old scroller stock and an offcut of starquad, so didn't owe me anything.

Just for reference all packs I've ever come across (telex, clearcom, stonewood/metro, tecpro) all share the same pinout for headsets

Pin 1 Microphone earth / screen

Pin 2 Microphone signal

Pin 3 Earphones earth/screen

Pin 4 Earphones signal

Now that reminds me, time for a bit of embarrassing thread necromancy from a much younger version of myself...

In my notes from making adapter cables it say PIN 4 GRND.

EDIT: Tecpro BP1 cct diagram shows PIN 3 0v

This is the standard that every comms headset I have seen, from every system I have come across as well. The 5 pin standard used for stereo headsets uses pin for left and 5 for right, the remainder the same.

So, what's the point here then? That there's multiple standards? Hardly surprising

My notes were from when I made a switch unit for a colleague to use between Tecpro intercom and sound desk. The only item I opened to establish the connexions being the socket on the headset which I noted at screen of yellow. I assumed this was correct and wired the switchbox to suite, which worked perfectly and has done for the last 10 years or so.

Since then I've made a number of varying adapter cables and stayed with the same standard with total success and had no reason to recheck until now.

It does of course make no difference if the headset is wired incorrectly.

My edit hopefully showed I had checked and become aware of the accuracy of James post.

All that aside, are you sure there are multiple standard in existance?wacko.gifrolleyes.gif
