Best wire for flexibility on fixtures

Hi all,

 

Looking for a bit of advise, I'm trying to replace a loom on an older barrel light but not having much luck finding the correct wire.

 

The wire is 1mm thick and very flexible as it's being constantly flexed.

 

So, what cable do people normally use, and where do you buy it?

Ah, maybe I should have been more specific.

 

The wire is single core, and the outer diameter is 1mm

 

It's cable for the signal to the stepper motors that I'm trying to replace. Any ideas?

Yep, because it's going to the stepper inside the barrel which is moved constantly while in operation.

There's 6 1mm diameter wires going to the stepper

I presume you mean the outer diameter of the wire is 1mm. Normally if you say "1mm cable" it would refer to the cross sectional area of the copper in the cable.

That would be extremely thick for a stepper motor cable.

 

Does the existing cable go directly into the motor? On most barrel type effects it's just the normal motor wires which are nothing special.

Sorry yes, I corrected myself in the second post. It goes to a jst connector, the problem I'm having is finding wire which will be flexible and durable enough at the same thickness

Look at the stuff made by Staubli, the hi-flex stuff is called flexivolt (soft pvc) or silivolt (silicone).

 

Here's some 1mm outer diameter.

 

I use the larger stuff for moving heads
