Versa Disc

A Teatro Versa Disc (remember those?) has developed what appears to be a DMX fault.

After power up it shows perfectly normal 'DMX OK' indication. When sent a DMX signal of more than zero the unit responds normally for about 20 seconds and then stops, and shows DMX fail. removing and restoring power clears the fault, but it fails again after a further 20 seconds. The level of the DMX channel sending to the unit, and the number of changes to this, during the 20" working period have no effect on the time before it fails. This is NOT a desk fault. This is NOT related to any particular DMX address (several have been tried by way of experiment). This is NOT due to a badly seated chip or other loose connection(s). It is NOT a faulty PSU.All the Teatro stuff was so good that I'd be sad to lose this gadget.

Any other thoughts folks?

Hi

I'd immediately start looking at the DMX opto if it has one.

Are you absolutely sure it's not a PSU / power fault? Have you metered out the rails to check its not undervolting? If the fault is repeatable, monitoring PCB voltages whilst the error occurs would rule this out.

All the best
