MickieMackieMoo
Question aimed for those that have repaired mac550 probably the same on the 700 Regarding the mini fans in the head next to UV filter, I have 6 or so where the wire (in the heatshield) is fried to a crisp.... I am talking about the cable that passes around the back of the UV filter to the PCB The lights I have I don't think have ever had proper servicing or any love at all really..... So my question is this common??, and have you taken any measures to try to prevent it....if so what?? Picture if it helps
gyro_gearloose
I had a similar problem with some Mac 250s. One motor loom ran close to the reflector, and was fried to a crisp on several heads. When I rebuilt them I ran the wires down some silicone covered fibreglass sleeve I had left over from another job. I don’t have the 250s anymore so I can’t tell you how effective this was, but silicone and glass should resist the heat fairly well. You could also try finding some fans which move more air. This should help keep things cool, but might make a bit more noise.
Richard CSL
this is a very common fault with the 550's. The reason it happens is the heat from the lamp is very close to the sylglas sleeve, I believe it makes it sweat, thus producing a liquid which eventually corrodes the pvc and the copper.I would suggest replacing the fans / wiring with the white sylglas . No silicone as this probably won't sweat.Failing that you just have to replace the fans every 5 years , or whenever they stop working. Small tip with the fixture open you can start briefly just to see if the fans are running ( 10 sec or so) Good luck
