Rachlx
Hi all, I’m having trouble trying to trigger my ETCIon lighting desk with a midi cue from Qlab, going through a Behringer X32. The Mac running Qlab is connected to the X32 via usb, using the internal card. Cable then coming from Midi out on the X32 to the in on the Ion. Midi patch in qlab is set to X-USB. When I do this through my focusrite sound card it works straight off so I know all the connections are good. Can’t get it to work through the X32 though so I think it must be something to do with having the correct settings on the X32. Can anyone help me out please?? ThanksRach
J Pearce
I don't believe the X32 acts as a midi interface when connected to a computer. You can midi from computer to X32 over USB, or you can midi to the X32 via the midi ports, but the USB midi does not connect to the midi ports as far as I am aware. timmeh2
Agreed. Get yourself a cheapy 1 in 1 out USB dongle and use that to spit out your MIDI.
TomHoward
You should able to trigger both QLab and Ion from a MIDI push from X32, if you can get MIDI routed into both, or could fire an OSC network message from Qlab at the Ion if they are both networked, about bypass the X32? Rachlx
Hi everyone,Thanks for the replies. USB dongle won't work as the lighting desk doesn't actually have a midi connection, so the midi bit would have to go at the Qlab/X32 end anyway (I have tried this with my other sound card)! Looks like I will have to do OSC. Just a shame as that will involve reprogramming in Qlab when the show transfers. Thanks again. R

You say the desk doesn't have a MIDI connection (presumably IonXE?), but in your first post you say you've tried it with an external sound card and it works fine. I don't understand how this would work with an other Soundcard but not with a dongle, especially if there is no physical MIDI connection on the ION. IIRC you can use a USB Midi dongle with the EOS consoles these days (as long as it is class compliant), so you could potentially use one a both ends? Excessively complex though, I'd just use OSC and write a small script to convert the MSC cues into suitably formatted network cues.
