mcwillt05
Hello all, I have some Par 16 Birdies with LED GU16 bulbs in them going through dimmers. There is an issue with bleed through from the dimmers meaning the Birdies are on even when at 0% on the dimmer. Anyone have any solution's? Thanks, Tom
themadhippy
Add some more load to the dimmers,a spare 500w lantern rigged out the way should work, also worth checking theirs no pre heat set on the dimmers.
alistermorton
Do the LEDs claim to be dimmable?
alistermorton
Also, do you mean GU10 or MR16 lamps?
nuttytechy
Some led fixtures and lamps are not dimmable because of the circuitry. The dimmer pack or unit you are using may have a small amount of current being produced as these are Pre-Warmers for conventional lanterns. As other have said. Put a load of 500 w on the same channel to stop any leaking current going to the LED's but it mainly goes to the 500 w load. Make sure the dimmers are not set on on pre-warm Double check the LED's so they can be used in a dimmer situation. If you are not using them to be dimmed then I suggest using them on Switched packs instead.
Shez
If you are not using them to be dimmed then I suggest using them on Switched packs instead. Some switch packs also have a minimum load rating - the triacs won't latch on below a certain current. So with a low power LED you may still need a load lamp.

Mind you I don't use LED fixtures which are not intentionally designed for theatre lighting dimmers.
bigclive
The leakage through the snubber network across the triac will be more than enough to cause the lamps to remain lit. As others have suggested, the usual fix is to add a small resistive load to that dimmer channel.
musht
Some switch packs also have a minimum load rating. On small dimmers, sometrimes just a bit of resistive load is all that`s needed, used a 15W pygmy lapm in other socket of showtecs with LEDs with reasonable success. Dimmers that have a switching setting generally use triacs. https://www.thomann.de/gb/showtec_dim_4lc_4_ch_dimmer_switch.htm DMX relay pack, just mechanical relay output and are not load sensitive https://www.thomann.de/gb/showtec_rp_405_mkii_relay_pack.htm
Don Allen
I use a 25W blue lamp for my LED bleed loads. I had found this out as I use 4 channel dimmer packs on stage and did not want a bright load. The 25W blue load is unobtrusive as they are in aluminium desk lamp reflectors. Try something smaller that 500W as one of the purposes of using LED fixtures to to reduce power consumption where possible. Strand specified a minimum dimmer load of 60W in their analogue dimmers service manuals.
