IA76
Hi What mic would you suggest to be used with a video camera with 3.5mm jack input that will pick up the sound from 2 people standing outdoors in front of the camera and both of them will be talking. One suggestion I have been given is http://www.rode.com/microphones/videomic but how well would this work if it is a bit windy outside
Shez
Does the mic have to be mounted on the camera? You'll never get the best results that way. Any particular budget? It's worth considering adapters (e.g. Beachtek) that will let you use XLR mics with the camera and convert to a minijack connection.
ninjadingle
How many inputs do you have? Just bought the Sennhesier AVX-ME2 set for a single application and it's brilliant. If you have 2 inputs use 2 of them? (Or would a 3.5mm headphone splitter work to give you the 2 inputs?)
Dave m
if it was me I'd shoot video and record sound independently using a zoom recorder or similar and edit it in post. you could even hold a zoom just below the bottom of the picture. choosing a wind free area with minimal background noise helps enormously, and if it is windy, even something like a body or umbrella can be used as a windbreak when no money s available
paulears
The critical thing is distance. The Rode is actually quite a nice mic - but outside, more than 2m away - the sound will be thin, weedy and the camera gain will let you hear everything within the mic's capture area - which may include the 2 people. More than 2m means either clip on lads, or a boomed shotgun - and a skilled operator able to hear the mic's output. Camera mounted mics are always ambient and great for adding 'reality' to close miked sources. On their own, it's luck - silence, and loud speaking talent.
