barn01
Hi, We currently have a production which has a large TV on the stage, however we are getting a lot of reflection from the stage lights. Any tips for reducing/removing this? I did wonder about putting a sharktooth gauze over the TV screen - would there be enough backlight from the TV to make the gauze transparent? Any other suggestions welcome. Cheers, G
david.elsbury
CRT tv, or lcd? I assume CRT? You could try spraying the glass with dulling spray (it’s often used in film) or apparently hairspray works too, the cheap stuff
GridGirl
Hairspray does work - I've used it on mirrors on stage quite a few times. Candlewax works as well but it can be tricky to apply it in a way which means it's not super visible.
david.elsbury
I’ve often had issues with a baby grand piano and reflection off the lid, onto a projector screen. I’ve often wished for a can of hairspray to try... but I figure it wouldn’t go down well with the pianos owner! (Ps, don’t hate me GridGirl! ;-) )
gyro_gearloose
Ask the pianos owner what they use to polish it. You may be able to tame the reflections from the lid by applying the polish but not buffing it to a shine.
Brian
I’ve often wished for a can of hairspray to try... but I figure it wouldn’t go down well with the pianos owner! I used to work with a commercial photographer who told the story of a photo-shoot of an expensive car. It was a bit too shiny and so the assistant was asked to dull it down a bit but instead of using the proper 'dulling spray' he used a can of hairspray. The car company was not best pleased. The proper stuff to use.

GridGirl
I’ve often had issues with a baby grand piano and reflection off the lid, onto a projector screen. I’ve often wished for a can of hairspray to try... but I figure it wouldn’t go down well with the pianos owner! (Ps, don’t hate me GridGirl! ;-) ) 99% of the time I have the opposite problem - our piano gets put away under the pit (which is a whole other story) and usually when we get it out again the dust is about three inches deep on the lid. No reflections off that!
Dave m
With reflections off a piano, how about either a sheet of acrylic that has been treated to a going over with something to Matt it, or a sheet of ply painted black (both lid shaped?)Or make a "shower cap" of something like a dull Lycra ?Grid girl - piano covers? TV wise, could the tv screen be recessed a bit by making the box stick out a bit? Years ago in education, big crt monitors came with fold out doors and a lid that created a metal version of those pop up ant sun things that people use for laptops outdoorsMy local pub had an outdoor tv for the football and it had a Perspex screen that was etched to avoid glare but it was very directional and you couldn't see anything if off line
GridGirl
Grid girl - piano covers? Oh, we try. But we’ve lost more of them than I can count. Usually because it doesn’t get put back on when we put the piano away (which is almost inevitably in a hell of a hurry), we find it half an hour later and move it out of the way for later and then it vanishes.
