jim@productioncraft.com Posted March 11, 2018 Posted March 11, 2018 Hello, I need to have 2 DMX controllers several floors apart from each other in the same building, other controlling (at separate times!) the same lights. I understand that I can merge several controllers but the the highest value on either console would take precedence. However once a value on the current "high" console is exceeded does the other console have full control? or could it only set a level above the other console? I know the Last takes precedence is also possible but I am not sure how I get the consoles to allow LTP vs. HTP?
niclights Posted March 11, 2018 Posted March 11, 2018 You can network Avolites Titan consoles together in a 'multi-user' setup where the same show is synchronised across all the consoles. Each console can have its own cues if required. In this arrangement the lights only need to be connected to one console so you don't need to worry about merging and priorities.
jim@productioncraft.com Posted March 11, 2018 Author Posted March 11, 2018 Thank You! I did a quick price search on the Titan Console, and for this application (although I am sure they are great!) it is a bit more that the budget would allow. I have about $2,500.00 US $ for this fix and the Titan Mobile is close to $4,000.00 for one of them.
jason5d Posted March 11, 2018 Posted March 11, 2018 you can use titan software with a titan one DMX adapter for a few hundred quid + the pc
Don Allen Posted March 12, 2018 Posted March 12, 2018 The Showtec DMX Merge has several options including LTP and Backup mode. The page linked to had the handbook link.
dbuckley Posted March 12, 2018 Posted March 12, 2018 Hello, I need to have 2 DMX controllers several floors apart from each other in the same building, other controlling (at separate times!) the same lights. Really? Could this be a simple as a switch to select which console has control? Or is this more complex than you've suggested. And how many channels. And what sort of lights.

A bit of background info on the project would really help people make sensible suggestions!
jim@productioncraft.com Posted March 12, 2018 Author Posted March 12, 2018 Here is some additional info. This is a simple single camera broadcast news live shot set-up. Their are 3) lights altogether. 2) are the DMG Lumiere (ROSCO) Switch 1 and the other is the backlight a DMG mini Switch. DMX control cables will be connected to their respective power supply / Drivers. The lights have intensity and CCT control. At the local camera position we try to keep things as simple as possible as the operators are not technicians but rather Communications folks. We will position a simple board at this location and leave the faders in the "Right Place" In our Control Room,( which may or may not be staffed?) An actual technician may want to make an adjustment before the shot goes to air. Perhaps to bring the backlight up or down? The goal is to make independent control possible from both either location. The locations are at best a 150 meter cable run apart, and we have a variety of connection media types available. DMX cable, Ethernet, fiber. etc.
Barney Posted March 12, 2018 Posted March 12, 2018 Sounds like a simple DMX merger with LTP functionality - such as linked to in Post #5 above - is what you need then.
Brian Posted March 12, 2018 Posted March 12, 2018 Sounds like a switch and a couple of bits of camera tape. [E2A]To clarify... A switch down on the studio floor so that the technician can take control of the DMX feeds to the units and camera tape on the studio floor desk to indicate where the default fader positions are so that said technician can start from a known state.
jim@productioncraft.com Posted March 12, 2018 Author Posted March 12, 2018 Thank you, Looks like the ShowTec DMX merge is the way to go! Another similar product from a company in the States called Elm Video Technology, But appears to be no longer selling for some reason. I appreciate all of your help and input.
