Replacement for an old Frog!

Hello all. I have been touring a Fat Frog for years now with a tribute band but it's time (to say the least) to move on. Invariably I am controlling a 5 colour wash (depending on what the theatre has), and maybe 10 specials. The Frog is a breeze for running on bump buttons and busking which is important as I am never using the same rig 2 nights running. I need something that is quick to set up and strip down and doesn't take forever to program as this is something I have to do at every gig. Also, the running of the show has to be easy as.... wait for it.... I am also the sound engineer running an iLive so I don't really wanting to be flipping pages etc. Getting my hands on a fader/button as opposed to a screen is preferable during the show. What would people suggest ?

Thanks all.

Ian.

Without saying too much, it might be worth waiting just a little longer...!

The very quick flash we saw of a desk in the video makes me think Zero88 version of ETC Colorsource.... ;)

A Colorsouce desk would probably do what the OP wants. Compact, fairly easy to get to grips with and potentially a good busking desk as the faders can be assigned to playbacks (submasters) :)

That looks interesting, thanks for understanding what I am looking for too. Are there prices available for these or are they still waiting for release?

Scratch that, its just the Zero 88 thats waiting for release isnt it. Just watched a tutorial on the ETC. It looks excellent.

This is the Colorsource desk I've just got at work and probably the one you would want if you went the ETC route, as it has sound input:

At time of posting it was listed at £1815.00 ext VAT

Do you know if the two DMX outs are independent universes or two outputs on the same universe?

This is a good question, as none of the documentation seems to say.

As far as I can work out there are 4 models of the console: 20, 40, 20AV and 40AV

20 and 40 just have one universe. AV versions have up to 5 universes, 1&2 on the XLRs and all 5 are sent out over the network as Artnet or sACN. The "20" versions can control up to 40 fixtures and the "40" versions can control up to 80 fixtures (confusingly they call the fixtures "channels" presumably as each fader on the front controls a fixture).

Tomo who posts here works for ETC so can probably give us better info

That's correct, both models of ColorSource AV have five universes of DMX:

- Two DMX/RDM on the back.

- All 5 via network.

On ETC consoles a "channel" is an "independently-controllable luminaire" - same as on Eos and Cobalt. We try to be somewhat consistent where possible ;)

- The idea is that a "fixture" is usually a physical object, and there might be several fixtures on one Channel, eg several dimmers paired up to the same Channel.
