The Behringer Minicom-800 I had been using as a show-relay compressor died a while ago & is no longer made. I've tried a Shark, but the controls are very limited & it seems to "pump". Does anyone know of any other small (preferably less than half-rack) & cheap basic mono or stereo compressor (will be powered 24/7)?

I'm using a "Presonus Smart Compressor" which is half-rack. Only problem is: they are not made anymore, as far as I know, so you'd need to get a used one. Reliable they are.

On the other hand, your minicom probably has a PSU problem, which might be relatively easy to fix: look for a dead voltage regulator or transistor in the PSU section. They are often installed without any heatsink. A notorious Behringer problem.

Thanks Norbert. I checked the regulators, etc. were ok, & gave up after that - apart from the PSUs all the small Behringer stuff seems to be virtually unrepairable.

One of the PreSonus Bluemax Smart Compressors is currently on ye olde eBay for a starting price of £45. Good chance of getting it for that as it's seemingly been relisted twice.

Off topic remark, but I first read that topic title and saw "TORY Compressor"...

And I thought - politics aside, that would be a good piece of kit if someone could invent one...!!

If your venue has an induction loop system you could do what I did and use the "slave I/O" jack to get a compressed line-level signal from the mic on the proscenium. This feeds the show relay amplifier quite happily.

(our loop is driven by an Ampetronic ILD300 - don't know if other makes have the slave jack)

Thanks. Yes I spotted that one. My only problem is whether I could shoe-horn it sideways into the few available inches of rack-shelf.

Ours is a bit more complex - 4 gun-mics feeding a little Behringer mixer; stereo to jackfield & control-room monitors, stereo to Sennheiser IR system; mono (aux send) via compressor to Lx desk & foyer speakers.
