DanSteely Posted August 13, 2017 Posted August 13, 2017 During the last week I have been intermittently watching the London athletics. I'm not a particular fan of track and field events but enjoy spotting broadcast and other technology at these events. I've spotted Steadicams, Skycams/Spidercams, massive jibs, track cams, drone cams, miles of cabling, line arrays, miscellaneous rigging, video walls, pyro, power distribution, remote stills cameras, etc. I'd love to take a look at the OB truck 'village' too.. I wish the BBC would put together an hour long program covering these topics for Muppets like me. I've been looking around the web for technical info on the games but have come up pretty dry. Do any BR members know of any detailed information sources? Thanks & best wishes

GaryNattrass Posted August 13, 2017 Posted August 13, 2017 Yes that is right SVGTV are doing this and whilst the BBC is a rights holder they are rarely the host broadcaster on these big events as they no longer have the infrastructure. OBS (Olympic Broadcasting Services) do the Olympics and you can find more details about them too here: https://www.obs.tv SVG will also be doing the Commonwealth Games next year as they also did the Glasgow games in 2014 but most of us working on it are freelancers. The World Cup and other footie events tend to be done by HBS: http://www.hbs.tv There is normally a broadcasters guide done for these big events which have details of technical specs but as it is a highly competitive industry the fine details tend to be kept private for each company.
DanSteely Posted August 14, 2017 Author Posted August 14, 2017 Many thanks both for the info and pointers
