shones
Is anybody using something like a PTZ IP 2 or more MP digital camera with 30x zoom for video recording church meetings? I have a Floureon (appears to be aHKvision rebadge). What do you use to record with and how do you add sound when the camera hasn't got sound input? The camera hasn't got a SD slot built in. It shows under Megapixel IP Camera in IE, will also show in Ispy. Ispy will at the most record as 10fps at a 720x1280setting rather than 1080x1920 (which the camera will give) and usually it doesn't record for more than 15minutes. Any additional recordings with iSpy makes it worse. The recording PC is an AMD Quadcore FX -4100 64bit Win7 8GB memory. I am also trying to record with a Fleuron DVR/NVR unit, but it takes ages to download from it to a PC for postprocessing. I have also recorded in Megapixel to another PC that's not used for anything else. High res is only AVI for about 513mb then it makes another 513mb file (so about 7 for about 2hours meeting). There is a Panasonic V520 camcorder HDMI out to magwell USB3 capture which records using Netcam Studio and also a projector output capture using StarTech.com USB3HDCAP USB 3.0 Video Capture Device set to VGA in. iSpy is not running but even with Netcam Studio sound sync and smoothness leaves a lot to be desired, even though on playback VLC doesn't report any dropped frames. The 2 channels in Netcam record to h264 no compression best video quality, the input is set to 720x1280 rather than 1080x1920 which both USB3 dongles could give. Thanks for any tips and ideas
david.elsbury
If I recall there are file size limits with AVI- not sure if it's the file type itself or a MS Windows limit
timsabre
Try obs studio (free) for recording, and also streaming if you need that. I've been very impressed with it.
henny
Also look at vmix it will take the IP cam , the magwell and the startec as input devices
Tom_M
There are known issues with the floating point performance of the AMD processors. If you have an Intel based system it should perform better - all video processing is a floating point operation. I have found that at least 16Mb of RAM makes most video editing and recording software perform better. I have found Windows 10 will give better performance on the same hardware when compared to Windows 7. For video editing and capture the professional / enterprise / ultimate version of Windows is preferred over the home version due to performance issue with the home version. You haven't mentioned the network speed that you are using, but using anything less than gigabit Ethernet to capture a live feed from an HD IP camera is likely to cause issues. Some Ethernet chipsets are better then others. Your comment about the download from a DVR taking a long time is worth investigating as it points to a possible network performance issue or a performance issue with the DVR. When downloading from the DVR open task manager and look at the bandwidth being used by the Ethernet interface assuming you are using a wired connection. If you are using a wireless connection then 802.11n or preferably 802.11ac will be required to download with any speed. AVI files have a much larger file size limit than 513Mb. I have some that are 10Gb - ripped from a Blu-ray. It is possible that the 513mb limit is imposed by the software you are using, the file system that you are recording onto or the DVR. There are definitely file size limits when using FAT / FAT32 file system. For Windows 7 you should really be using NTFS as the file size limits are in the Tb range and it performs faster than FAT / FAT32.

timsabre
Fat32 has a file size limit of 4GB (2^32)
Tom_M
DOH! sorry I spent the day dealing with satellite links and the fingers automatically typed Mb and not Gb. Its amazing how mind numbing it is working in bits per second and having to do all of the maths to convert from bits per second to Kbits per second and then to MHz of bandwidth taking into account the modcod and the FEC. As well as crunching out link budgets for MEO and GEO satellites to see what our customer can afford compared to what they want. My brain is still hurting and I've moved on to re-sizing our internet connection to take these satcom links out to the net.
